i just joined a bunch of mass. communities the other day after coming across the b0st0n one (while looking for more info on the supposed pepperell animal shelter closing down situation...) and i have a got a question or ten =]

do any of you guys :

1. have any leads on cheap one-bedroom/studio apartments in the boston-ish area? the best ive come across is a one bedroom in an apartment building in medford for about $600-700/month but its not as close to a t-stop as id like and i was told by a friend who lives there that the walls are paper-thin.

2. or could you recommend a realtor? ive never had to look for an apartment before so im pretty lost. im used to moving in with friends who already have a place. i dunno how to come across/find my dream place hah.

3. or.. does anyone on here need a roommate? im 24, vegan (its ok if yer not), have 2 well-behaved cats, love any and all things rock n roll, and am really nice/friendly/easy to get along with! (can supply much more info and arrange a super-fun meet-up?)

maybe im dreaming but $600 is roughly the MOST id like to have to pay. and id like to live as close as possible to a t-stop. and id like to move asap, even tomorrow! =]
boston-ish rent is crazy compared to where i was living before: salem.

I do not think you are going to find an acceptable one bedroom or studio close to Davis in your budget range.

Sharing an apartment is definitely do-able on that budget, though (at least until winter and you start paying $100/month/person heating bills).

I have a possible room mate situation for you. $550 a month in Somerville, near Charlestown and a 5 minute walk to the Orange Line. I have a cat but she's not other people NOR other cat friendly so that may be a huge snag for you. I'm not vegan but you said that's okay.

oh that stinks about yer cat! it sounds great otherwise but id worry about her and my cats. one of my cats is young and wants to play with anything/everything and my other cat is really old and just wants to be left alone to lay in some sunshine hah.
does she attack other cats or what? cuz my older cat ignores/wants nothing to do with the younger one, but the worst its ever gotten is the older one hissing when she super wants to be left alone.

Sorry. We better forget it. Pedals (the Saint Meow shelter found her along the Arlington Bike Path, hence the name) has claws of steal and she can be quite vicious to other cats. My place actually isn't huge. It's probably not a good idea. But I'm glad I put the thought out there.

Craigslist is a great resource. LJ may lead you to the best place too. I'm sure you'll find something perfect. Good luck!

99.9% of all studios/one bedrooms in this area are way more than that. i'm suprised you found even one that was that decent a price (especially since you have pets). your best bet is definitely roommate/s.

are you interested in splitting an apartment for the summer for 600 a month? it's near union/porter and on the 88 and 90 bulines (so minutes from davis and lechmere) it would be through august but would get you more to look for a more amenable situation. let me know if you are interested.

My friends near City Hall (bus to Sullivan or Lechmere) are looking for summer sublet housemates (to start May 1/flexible), though they said "but please ask about staying longer."

One room is about 9x13' plus the landing on the top of the stairs on the third floor, next to the living room. It's basically up in the eves of the house. Has a cozy feeling; a bit better for someone less than 6' tall: $565 includes all bills and wi-fi internet (though there is no land-line phone). The other room is bigger, about 12x13' on the second floor: $665/month includes all bills.

They are a cool couple: self-employed; believe in natural medicine, natural foods, healing, music; vegan-friendly; their household operates like a co-op, actually. I don't know about their pets policy.

Any studio apt close to the T is *minimum* $900. Usually more. I lived in with 4 other people in a 5-bedroom apt about a 5 min walk from Davis (near the Traffic & Parking Office) and we paid $3000. My SHARE was $600. To live with FOUR other people. Right now, I live in a 2-bedroom about 1.2 miles away and it's $1100.

Pepperell Cat Shelter NOT Closing-HOAX

I am absolutely flabbergasted that this continues to make the rounds.

The Pepperell Cat Shelter is NOT closing.The email posted is a viral hoax! My oldest daughter has been a volunteer there for the past 11 years (and a very close friend of the founder, who passed away last month). All the volunteers are still working there and the state is helping with a illness issue with some of the cats, but NO healthy cats are being euthanized. It is the shelter's goal to continue to adopt cats out, was founded as a no-kill shelter and will continue to be a no-kill shelter. The only cats that were euthanized were some very ill FIV or FELv positive cats that were on their last legs (only 6).


The "daughter" actually gets a kick out of the "daughter" bit. This is the current president of the shelter, and the founder's best friend. She is in her late 50s ! Feel free to spread the word that it IS NOT CLOSING!!

This guy just wrote to me about this place. Cats are okay. It's near or a very short bus ride (the #11) to Broadway Station on the Red Line.

I will not take this apartment because it's in South Boston. I have estranged relatives there I want to keep estranged.
