Here's a preview of a Connect CTY message going out in the immediate vicinity of Davis Square tonight (with a reminder call the next day to business numbers):
------------
Hello. This is Tom Champion from the city of Somerville with important information about planned overnight parking restrictions in the Davis Square area.
Starting Tuesday evening, April 22nd at 9:30 p.m. and continuing to 6 a.m. the next morning, a contractor will be repainting all street pavement markings the immediate Davis Square area. During this period, parking will be prohibited both sides of the following streets: Holland Street from Buena Vista to Davis Square, Elm Street from Cutter Avenue to Davis Square, Highland Avenue from Cutter to Davis Square and Cutter Avenue itself. Parking will also be prohibited along short sections of College Avenue and of Day and Dover Streets, and in the metered lots behind Kenney Park, between Cutter Avenue and Elm Street, and on street level in the Buena Vista lot. Other metered lots will not be affected.
If the work is not completed by 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, April 23rd, it will resume in the remaining work areas on 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening and will continue if necessary until 6a.m. on Thursday, April 24th.
Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring that this necessary public works project goes forward quickly and smoothly. If you have questions or need additional information, please call 311 during normal business hours. Thank you, and Happy Patriot’s Day.
------------
All of the work areas should have been posted since Friday.
There will be two crews working inward from each end of the Davis Square area, so it all may get done on Tuesday night (which is one of the reasons for the "early" start), but only the unfinished sections will be restricted if work has be continued on Wednesday night.
If you park anywhere in this area, you WILL get ticketed -- and the contractor will have a tow truck on duty to move cars around as necessary. So if you stagger out of a DS watering hole at 1:00 a.m. having ignored the parking notices, your car may have magically moved to the other side of the street. But if you can't find it, you're in no condition to drive anyway.
