Dear Fans of the Davis Square Farmers Market,

A month or so ago, I posted about a Friends group that would be forming to support the Davis Square Farmers Market (I'm a volunteer with Mass Farmers Markets and I work just outside of Davis). The Friends group would provide advocacy, promotion, and excitement for the market (which is on Wednesdays starting next month!) and many big and small ways.

We had a great introductory meeting in March - there was a lot of enthusiasm and plenty of new ideas! Please join us for our second meeting, as we decide how we're going to make some great new things happen at the Davis Market this season!

When: Monday, April 28th, 5:45 to 7:00 PM
Where: Boloco (a supporter of ours - on Elm Street, towards Porter Square)

Please tell your friends, bring one along, and let me know if you can make it to the meeting - or even if you'd just like to be on our e-mail list. Please remember that even small actions - forwarding an e-mail, telling a friend about an event - can make a big difference. You can be a Friend of Davis in many ways, even if you don't have the time for a big commitment.

Thanks, and Happy Spring!

I don't know if there is any way to keep the market open slightly later; my unfortunately problem with trying to shop local is that I work in the Back Bay. By the time I make it back to Davis, it's 6:00 and everyone has closed up shop for the day. It would be awesome if the Farmer's Market experimented with staying open until 7:00.

I heartily second this. Perhaps the market could start an hour later and end an hour later? Otherwise, you're asking farmers to man the booths for an extra hour, which may not much appeal to them.

I would love to support the farmer's market as well but the hours are not very friendly to those who work.

They're open on wednesday from 12noon to 6pm. So you can't go before work - and you have to rush home to try and make it to the tail end of the market.

Why isn't this market held on weekends (it would be a huge success I would imagine)?

If it's on a weekday, Why isn't it open earlier (before people head out to work) or later (after people get home).

The question of opening earlier has been raised before, and I believe the answer was that farmers are busy with their farms very early in the morning and often need to drive a distance to get to us. But, maybe an hour later might work out? As for weekends, there's a farmers market in Union Square on Saturdays and in Harvard Square on Sundays.
