Davis Square - Lexington Bike Posse!

I've been riding my bike to work for a month now, and it's great. If anyone cares to join me, I start at the mime statue behind the T stop on Holland at 7:45. My work is exactly 10 miles out the bike path, so if you're going anywhere between here and there, come join us.

I live in Arlington now but my workplace is also about 10 miles out on the bike path (and another 5 miles south). how's the traffic on the path in the morning?

I don't commute that way anymore (got a new job a couple years back) but the traffic is just bike commuters for the most part. In the evening you have to contend with a lot more joggers, roller bladers, and walkers. Especially when the weather first turns nice.

So far the weather is still cool, and there's not much traffic in the morning. But in the evening, as derekp says, there are lots more people including kids on various modes of transport.

Just a question that you may know the answer to- but is there a place around Davis/Porter that you can rent a bike for the day?

The Bicycle Exchange on Mass. Ave on this side of Porter Square rents bicycles for the day. I rented one from there last summer for my mother when she was in town--worked out fine.

The Bicycle Barn & Riding School in Somerville rents bikes for $10 a day when they don't have class (usually Sunday = class day). I arranged the rental with Susan, who runs the school, and she was nice enough to let me drop by the night before and grab the bike. Not sure how much selection they have, as I took the first bike I saw (and she said there were more to choose from), but the one I got was fine for my uses. She also gave me gloves & a helmet to use.

In the morning when riding against both gravity and the wind it takes 45-49 minutes. In the evening, downhill but dodging various people & pets, it takes me 39-45 minutes. A lot of the time difference depends on whether I catch traffic lights.
