[identity profile] anomie666.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] davis_square
I just got an LJ message from [livejournal.com profile] jspazzer, wishing to do a "Best of Davis Square: Coffee" poll.

Instead of creating a poll and deleting it because I'm going to leave one two places out, I thought I would ask first (and then maybe delete this post). I can only think of 4 "true" coffee shops: Diesel, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and Au Bon Pain. Am I leaving something out?

If not, I'll create the poll.

Mr. Crepe. Lots of people go there just for coffee. They even have a loyalty card (10 punches gets you one free coffee).

Also, Blue Shirt sells coffee.

Is Mr. Crepe still in business? I thought I heard they closed.

There's an Au Bon Pain in Davis Square?

Point taken, but I'd keep Blue Shirt simply because "café" is part of its name.

OK, technically it's in Ball Square, but True Grounds is fantabulous.

What? Unless they went out of business some time this morning, they're most definitely open.

I just called them (11:24 a.m.) and they're open.

Yep, still going strong. I was at the IFF Boston and they were probably doing land-office business just off the festivalgoers, let alone the regulars.

You know what else is great? Cafe Flor in San Francisco. Also not in Davis Square.

They closed in their little location up on Holland Street some time back (a couple of years?) but are now in the space formerly occupied by the Someday Cafe.

In my pants, which are located just up Holland Street. Can't miss them, they're a three story building made out of brick. :-)

can you walk easily from SF to DS?

Not saying we need to include Ball in the poll, just that it isn't a RIDICULOUS idea.

I have lost all right to be snarky due to brain death (see above).

I don't know how they stay in business. It never seems very crowded, and they close much too early. They'd do well if they emulated the Harvard Square store.

Well, you can walk even more easily from Davis to Porter, so if we're going to include True Grounds, we should include the cafe inside Porter Square Books as well.

What? Brain death helps you to be snarky, because your emotions die and all that's left is a vicious, sarcastic beast.
