hi everyone --

my roommate and i have about eight 8-10 inch adult koi in a tub in our basement that really need a good home. we're taking care of them but have no idea what we're going to do with them in the long-term. long story short, my roommate's dad had them in an outdoor pond for a few years, recently moved out -- and now we are in charge of them. we no longer have the outdoor koi pond, so these guys need someone who can take care of them properly.

we think there are eight of them -- they won't stay still (being fish and all) so this is the best count we can get. they're all between 8 and 10 inches long and did well in the outdoor koi pond (when we still had one).

i took some photos of them (in their current tub/abode) here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/varmazis/sets/72157604880892502/

please make a reasonable offer for them. we don't know what they're worth -- we want to make sure they're in a good environment first and foremost, yes, but considering how much they cost to buy upfront we'd like to recoup some of those costs. we're hoping whoever wants them will take all of them at once.

we also have some books on koi caretaking my roommate's dad left us, we'd be happy to give them to you with.

note that we can't transport them anywhere, so if you would like to have these fish, you will have to transport them yourself.

please drop me a commment if you're interested or know of anyone who might be. we really can't take care of them in the long-term. thanks.

[edit] we have found the koi a new home -- a 5000 gallon pond! (way better than a tiny tub.) thanks for everyone's help!

Call PetCo and see if they'll take them. The one near the Galleria has a huge freshwater tank for returned fish. It's usually pretty empty, so they might want to take a few for show.

Also search web forums for kio and see if they have adoption sections.

Pemberton Farms has a koi pond; it only had a few koi in it. Maybe they'd take them.

You could tie strings to two of them and light them on fire, then you'd have koi poi.

I'm sorry, I just got back from a fencing tournament, and I'm still loopy.

Perhaps there are fancier restaurants with tanks for decorative fish?

Hi,

there's a nice lady on Chester Street (Between Orchard and Mass Ave) who has a very nice garden. Her name's Katharine and she had her garden open today for openstudios. She has a Koi pond and would probably happily take your fish.

Here's a link to her open studios deal.

From SOS, I know that Katherine VanBuskirk (http://www.somervilleopenstudios.org/user/artist_profile.php?artistID=617) has a bunch of big ol' koi ponds in her garden. She may have room for a few more.
