Did everything on my 70,000 mile checkup recently at a Jiffy Lube, but they told me they don't do transmission fluid on Hondas, and I'd have to get it done at the dealership. The closest seems to be the one near Fresh Pond, but I generally dislike dealerships anyway.

Are there any other local options?

If not, please feel free to praise/rant about Cambridge Honda at Fresh Pond.

Oh, they're not a dealership but they're better than a dealership. Go see Hondar House (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hondarhouse.com%2F&ei=JiMfSLilCpCggwTTovTlDQ&usg=AFQjCNFKIWxpyn3V_o58SAUxA7JYvwVzig&sig2=3pbCUh26eIqIliXveLGhgw).

I love these guys. I've owned Hondas for years and years and won't let anyone else touch my cars. Ever.

Seconded. They're both great, and near convenient public transport (just a few blocks away from Central Sq).

Hondar House tried to screw me. Hondaa King, on the other hand, is both effective and honest.

It's pretty much a given that the dealer will screw you- their service guys are paid on a commission and they will overdiagnose your car so they can get money. Another problem with the dealer is that they run these huge service operations and the repair technicians' skill level tends to be much lower than the small, dedicated places.

Example of screwing: I had a stuck temperature slider (the temperature control wouldn't move, and the air was stuck on cold). It was getting to be wintertime so the lack of hot air was a problem. I took it to Hondar House because they are in a slightly more convenient location for me (I'd never been before). They made me leave my car, and a few hours later they called me back. The estimate was $300 to install a new wire connecting the heat slider to the engine vent. I took the car over to Scott at Hondaa King, he came out to the parking lot, stuck his hand down into the hot engine compartment, burned himself, apologized, came back with a rag, and then tried some more to move the slider some more. He managed to open the vent by using a can of spray lubricant, and then disconnected the cable so the vent was stuck on hot, and we could move the slider around without risking any damage. He said to come back any time to replace the wire... no charge for the ~20 minutes of service he'd just performed. It was $80 to replace the wire.

It's a dealership but I've had good luck with the Honda place on broadway in Malden. Unfortunately you have to enter Malden to get there.

Hondaa King is great...

...they're on Western Ave in Allston near Harvard Statium, right over the bridge from Cambridge. Fine prices, Scott always knows exactly what's wrong almost before I've finished explaining the problem. We've been taking our 1992 Honda Civic there for about 10 years now and have always gotten a good deal from them.

I've had great experiences with Herb Chambers Honda (yes, the dealer) on Comm Ave. Even if you are just getting an oil change, they wash and detail your car. They were very honest with me once - I walked in there thinking I needed new breaks, and I flat out said "Put new breaks on it". They asked if I wanted an inspection, and I said, no, just do it. They called me a few hours later and said I don't need breaks and whoever told me I did was crazy (I then drove the car 3 more years before i had to get new breaks).

My local Valvoline Instant Oil Change started doing transmission fluid. They did mine for me. (I'm in Lowell, though, which isn't of much use to you, however maybe your local one does it too!)
