I realize it's a little far afield for many of you, but I noticed that the former Wild Oats store on Alewife Parkway in Medford will be re-opening as a Whole Foods on May 14th.

Here's the link:

I would expect the usual WF array of samples and giveways.  I wonder if they will bring back free ice cream days?

I am *so* psyched for this, though given how soon farmshare & market season starts, I won't be there much, but it's still so much more convenient for a quick run than Alewife.

It'll definitely be my closest grocery store! Definitely more walkable from Teele Square than Alewife is.

Please tell me that the parking lot there is nowhere near the chaotic hellswarm that the lot at Fresh Pond store is. My god that was a scarring experience.

When that place was Wild Oats, it was often DEAD. I used to wonder how they stayed in business. Since it's a smaller store, I'd assume it won't get as crowded as the Fresh Pond one. If you're in Medford or Arlington, the Woburn Whole Foods--on 3 just over the Winchester/Woburn line--isn't a bad alternative. But that will be a moot point once the Medford Whole Foods is open (YAY!).

Oh, good! I buy most of my groceries at Harvest, but there are a few things I occasionally need to get at a Whole Foods instead (and neither WF in Central Square is really all that convenient).

funny...I like the Fresh Pond one for having a huge parking lot. Maybe I'm going at odd times or something but I never had problems finding parking there.

I think I tried to go on a weekend afternoon. HA HA HA HA HA. *weeps* The experience scarred my car-driving accomplice so much he swore to never take me there again (we found parking - way down at the other end).

I think the "Now Open" sign refers to the Starbucks, which has been open throughout the renovation.

I just looked at the website. The Medford Whole Foods will have made-to order burritos from their burrito bar.

The Winchester/Woburn store has a gelato bar, chocolate island, free wifi, a garden center, and outdoor seating. We get burritos?

Of course burritos. This close to Davis Square, what else would be appropriate?

It's kind of sad that the Fresh Pond parking lot is so godawful that I'll end up going here instead.

You too? What's so godawful about it? It's crowded but if you're willing to walk, it's a huge lot. I've never not been able to find a space at the Fresh Pond Whole Foods. Am I just going at odd hours?

It's not so much the crowds -- I'm happy to park in the back & walk -- but the Bermudas Triangle of terrible drivers that it seems to attract. I swear I feel like I'm narrowly escaping death with the loonies in that lot.
