Three of my current roommates and I are looking for a new apartment. I've been searching the usual suspects like craigslist but I wanted to see if you all had any recommendations for us. We are looking for August 1st, but for the right place we could swing July 1st or September 1st.

What we need:

  • 3 bedrooms, one of which could house 2 people.
  • Walking distance to the T, preferably red line but close to lechmere would also be acceptable
  • Must be close to 93. We currently live near 16 and Broadway in Somerville and it's way to far (the person this is important for must drive all the way to the braintree area everyday)
  • $2400 a month or less, preferably quite a bit less

What we would like:

  • Inman square preferably, Porter is also good though we are open to other options
  • A nice kitchen -- we do /a lot/ of cooking and baking so a tiny poorly equipped kitchen is a big turn off
  • A Living room and dining room or a sizable living room that would work for both purposes
  • On or off street parking (off street best, but on street is fine preferably permit with a permit)
  • A good amount of storage space
  • Any of the following: 1st floor(without an apartment below), townhouse, 1 family, bi-level apartment -- We are not partiers, however we have a love of DDR and Rockband that can occasionally create a lot of noise which we don't want to be a problem for us or for our neighbors)

Just Gravy:

  • A yard
  • Pets allowed
  • Utilities included

What do you consider "walking distance"? I like near Union and Lechmere is a little over a mile...I consider that "walking".

Maybe I should give you an email of my landlady if the following sounds like what you want. My current apartment will be free September 1st and none of us is staying there. It's right in Inman sq., ~ 15 mins walk to Central, close to 93. Our rent is $2100 for 4 bedrooms: 2 of the bedrooms are big (one of them is a former living room, so doesn't have a closet but can be made back into a living room), + 2 more smaller bedrooms and a living room that's a former bedroom so it's small. The kitchen is ok. The apartment is on the 2nd floor of the 3 story-building. There is a yard and 2 porches. Honestly, the apartment is not in a perfect shape, it's an old building but the location is awesome and that's why I stayed there for 4 years. The neighborhood is nice and it's 3 mins from Inman sq. which is cute and close to Central and Harvard and 93. Anyway, I'm really not advertising here as I'm not responsible for finding anyone to replace us, just thought it had enough intersection with what you were looking for...

Well, I have a place in Malden that is a little over a mile from the T (we walk it all of the time, at a leisurely stroll, in about 20 minutes). It's 3 BR, 1100 a month + utilities, 3 miles from I-93, less than that from Route 1 and I-95, both on and off street parking BUT it is on the 3rd floor. It's a quiet house though. I guess, if you really get hung up, it's a place to consider.

ETA: Cats are OK. Small dogs are good.
There is a yard.
