In addition to our regularly scheduled bar meet-up, I thought it would be a good idea to have a non-bar outdoor meet-up. I know there are many moms and non-drinkers that might like to socialize a bit and see random strangers from the interwebs. So a family friendly type thing would be good especially if the weather is nice.

Would people be interested in that? I was thinking maybe on a Saturday afternoon. I'm not as familiar with the parks in the area, but if there is interest, maybe people can suggest a meet-up location (ie, picnic tables would be good).

This wouldn't be in place of our bar meet-up, but an additional one.

BTW, Joe Sent Me was very fun!

While I totally support the idea of an outdoor meet-up, I don't understand this idea that "moms" can't come to bars. (Or non-drinkers, for that matter, unless they're FoB or otherwise particularly sensitive to it.)

We could picnic in Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland St T entrance.

Yes. Speaking as a mom, I have no problem with the idea of going to bars to meet y'all. What I have a problem with is going anywhere without the kids on a weekday evening. A weekend meetup in the middle of the day (or even early evening, like 5 as opposed to 7) would be preferable for me. If it's in a bar, that's fine with me, even though I don't drink.

An outdoor meetup to which kids are invited as well as adults, now that's a whole other kettle of fish. On the one hand it's a lovely idea to include the kids, and I certainly appreciate the idea of trying to create a more parent-friendly davis_square meetup. On the other hand I'd spend 90% of the time chasing and/or supervising my kids, so it wouldn't be much of a social occasion for me.

what is 'FoB' ?

In the past, people have suggested a Sacco's Bowl-Haven meetup. Maybe we could combine these two ideas into one event: outdoor picnic followed by bowling.

"Friends of Bill" People in AA.

At one point there was also talk of a juggling-themed meetup...

For me, it's a matter of:
1. Finding a babysitter on a weeknight for a bar meetup, that being easier said than done.
2. Not wanting to bring my offspring to a bar.

Besides, weeknights suck to go out drinking, especially when I go back to work in two weeks and have to be up at 0445. : (

I like the idea of picnics in a park on a weekend though. : )

Yes....

Please come meet strangers from the internet in a park. We have candy. And puppies. Oh, and midgets too....

Sounds like a great idea, (although I personally am a lot less likely to be free on a weekend than a weeknight).
I know there are many moms and non-drinkers that might like to socialize a bit and see random strangers from the interwebs.
And dads, and people who drink like a fish but have to keep early hours, and people who just like sunshine.¹
¹ Or, y’know, this being New England, freak thunderstorms.

The park at Powderhouse is very nice, and there's always room because it doesn't get used a lot. I'd recommend that for a picnic-on-blankets kind of thing.

I agree -- it's a beautiful park.
