There's a midnight showing (well, most likely, it's technically a 12:01 am showing) at the Somerville Theater. You can prepurchase tickets at their website.

I thought I'd put it up. Drop a comment here if you're going to go, for meeting-up purposes I'll be wearing my bowler hat.

Also, you would be well-advised to know that their liquor license requires they close up the bar at 10pm, so don't go in expecting any beer.

Oh, I have one too, I'm actually going to nap before the showing and then go straight to bed. I just can't turn down a cheap, early ticket ten minutes from my door. :-)

I'm probably going to be seeing this on Thursday. Even with a nap, I couldn't possibly be up at 5:30 the next day when I couldn't get to bed til 2:30, at the earliest. Plus, Boston Common. I'm sure I'll see it at Somerville, but some movies demand the biggest screen possible.

The Common may have big screens, but it's overall a middling filmgoing experience. The snacks are bad and overpriced, the projectionists are uniformly terrible, and the policy enforcement is spineless. I see way too many movies with screaming babies there, even late shows, for me to go to the Common as my first choice.

Well, Indiana Jones will indeed be on the biggest screen at Somerville (where the largest auditorium is actually bigger in seating terms than the biggest at Boston Common.)

Pay $10.25 to sit through 25 minutes of ads, loud audiences, sub-par presentation, or pay $7-8 to sit in a beautiful theater with grand drapes, great presentation, and a real 'big movie' feel. I know where I'm going!

It looks like the three movies together are a bit over 6hrs long, so I'd probably have to leave work early to get home and start them around 5/5:30.

Also keep in mind you can skip credits, so that should shave off some time.

Good points, but I circumvent these by:

-Getting snacks at CVS, and smuggling said contraband in my messenger bag.

-Wait, projectionists are terrible? I've seen the occasional surround-sound almost starts too late, but nothing worse. What have you run into?

-Spineless policy enforcement....this I haven't run into yet. I've hardly ever run into screaming babies there, but I did have to shush some wicked noisy unattended (read: adults with them couldn't give a damn about the noise they were making until I shushed them, after which the got the hell out of the theater) kids when I saw Speed Racer AND a snoring man whom I had to wake with a well-aimed Junior Mint to the seat in front of him. But I've rarely seen it so bad there, especially since I see a lot of stuff on Friday afternoon after work, when it's relatively quiet.

I can't in good conscience do the smuggling thing: I know too much about theater economics and how that snack bar is what keeps them afloat. That said, there's no excuse for that godawful popcorn.

Yeah, the projectionists are terrible. The surround sound is usually too high in the bass, they NEVER change the lamps when they should (to be fair, though, they do at least run their lamps at full brightness, unlike some cheapshit theaters), and they pretty consistently have framing problems. In the interests of fairness, even if it was nearly a decade ago, I was trained as a projectionist so I notice things others wouldn't.

I pretty consistently go to movies there where there shouldn't be kids and there are. I've started avoiding 'burb boxes for precisely this reason: I'm tired of seeing a horror movie with a twelve year old up front screaming.

Given the ridiculous pricing at Boston Common and the sheer number of warm bodies coming through the doors, I have no problems bringing snacks into Boston Common, especially when I buy the occasional trash-can sized Coke. The prices at the Brattle and Somerville are sufficient so that I don't need to get outside food, and the Kendall's concession stand is good enough so that I'll pay for it.

I happily smuggle snacks and drinks into any and all corporate chain cinemas (AMC, Regal, Showcase, etc). But if I visit a locally-owned theatre such as the Brattle, Capitol, Somerville, or Coolidge, I patronize the concession stand, overpriced or not.
