Area Farmers Markets are opening this week for the season.
Yay!

See the schedule and locations at www.massfarmersmarkets.org.

The Davis Square specific page is here, and when they update it will list what is available each week.

Yay, local food!

Still closing at 6:00. Bummer. Maybe next year...

Yeah, the Wednesday noon - 6:00 thing drives me nuts. I work weekdays and am never in Davis at that time. So I've never even been to this market, just looked in as the last vendor was packing up to leave. :-/ I wish they would have it on a weekend day.

The one in Union Sq is on Saturdays, if that helps. Harvard Sq's market is also on Saturdays, and that's a nice walk or two T-stops away.

Oh, I didn't know Harvard Square had one. Do you know where in the square it is?

Yeah, the Saturday market is in the Charles Hotel plaza. I've never actually gone myself, but I hear it's great though probably busier than Davis's. :)

I prefer the Davis market, actually, except for the hours. I used to go early-ish on Sunday, and never felt that it was too crowded to shop.

Isn't the Charles Square one on Sunday? That's what I remember, and that's what http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/farmers_markets.htm says.

Day of the week makes no difference to me, since I work 7 days, but open until even 7:00 I might be able to do at least occasionally.

I wonder if there's any way the farmers could be persuaded to shift the hours to, say 1-7 pm.

I like the noon start time because I can go on my lunch break from work. I'd be in favor of having the market stay open later, but I really do like being able to shop between 12 and 1 and would hate to lose that option.

Agreed. The market is usually pretty full when it opens, so opening at noon is working for them. I haven't seen the market right before close, but I would think if it were full enough they might consider extending their hours.

I think some of them come in from really far out of town, but I guess it's worth asking! I know I'd enjoy some locally-grown eggplant and corn and tomatoes and cukes and lettuce and asparagus and....

I love the Davis Square farmer's market, because I can go on my lunch break from work. I usually hit the Union SQ or Harvard SQ market on the weekend if there is something I have missed in Davis (or if I want more things than I can carry home). Many of the vendors are the same.
