Anyone know where I can borrow/rent a drain snake? Our kitchen sink drain is clogged and the Draino does not seem to be working and we can't afford to pay someone to come out to snake it. It was almost $400 last time I had to.

Edit:
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I found one of the drill powered snakes in the basement and spend an hour on the phone with my dad, who's a plumber. I will be making a trip to the hardware store for a hack saw and some cuplings. Messy and hassle filled, but cheaper then a plumber...

If this is something that happens kind of often, you may be better off buying one as opposed to renting.
I was told they were available for purchase at places like Lowes/Home Depot when I had a problem in my own apartment.
I don't know what the prices are like, since I was simply told "not a lot of money" but didn't have ANY at the time and the problem wound up getting fixed in the meantime... but it could be worth looking into.
Either way, good luck!!

Just buy one --- they're like $20 at Home Depot.

Yah... the bill for the last time was nasty! If it may be just past the sink, I can take a look at the u-bend and clean it out. If it's further down the pipes we'll have to use a snake. Home depot occasionally has the lower-priced ones (Though they don't show on their web site), but we may be able to get a better price from the contractor supply on Mystic Ave.

It's not everyday that you get a blonde amazon asking for help with her plumbing

If you have a power drill, there are ones that mount right on to them. Otherwise, they're pricey since they're a power tool. There are some non-power ones as well. Home Despot has them.

This may sound ridiculous, as I am sure you've tried this, but many times, you can just use a plunger with some force to clear this sort of thing. Fill the pipe with water and the sink tub with enough to cover the plunger. If the sink has another drain hole, you need to cover that as well. Like I said, I am sure you've tried this, but just in case...

the gel based draino works much better than the regular.
