Table for 7..
Jun. 4th, 2008 06:06 pmHi,
I've got 6 friends coming up Friday who've never been to Davis Square. I need to make reservations quickly. They've "heard of" Redbones, but Redbones doesn't take reservations on Fridays or Saturdays, so I'm going to pass with such a large group.
I'm interested in Sagra because they open the windows and I think that would be nice, and anyone can find something on an Italian Menu that pleases them as opposed to Indian or something (which I love, but doubt everyone else will).
Any thoughts? Maybe teens/low 20's for a plate? I've looked through Yelp, but thought I'd see what you all had to say. I've only been here for 3 months, so I've got a lot of taste testing left to do!!
Thank you!

Date: 2008-06-04 11:13 pm (UTC)Also, I feel Orleans has a real bifurcated menu. You can get their reasonably-priced pizzas or burger; or you can jump up to their pricier entrees. I've always thought their entrees just OK, but not worth the money.
Heads up!

Date: 2008-06-04 11:20 pm (UTC)Ate their last night; couldn't agree more. The $21 I spent on the chicken would, with $5 extra, have gotten me an absolutely mind-blowing entree at someplace like Eastern Standard.

Date: 2008-06-05 02:18 am (UTC)I actually think that having sports on may make half of my friends happy, and the other half may be into atmosphere. So I reserved a spot at Sagra for Friday.
I hope to try Sagra this weekend as well, and then I'll continue down the list - Gargoyles, Alfresco..etc.
I agree with the comments about Orleans. I was a bit surprised at what I got for the $ -- I was not sitting in the bar area though. I will try again w/ a smaller group sometime later.
It's great having so many walkable options! Way better than where I used to live!

Date: 2008-06-05 02:40 am (UTC)Joe Sent Me - Great burgers and HDTV's
Ball Square Cafe - Great Breakfast/Lunch
The restaurants in Davis Square are ok, nothing that really stands out.

Date: 2008-06-05 03:21 pm (UTC)dinner for 7
Date: 2008-06-05 03:31 pm (UTC)Sangra, Orleans, Gargoyles, Diva, Franks Steak House on Mass Ave, Johnny D's(maybe)
but all the rest are kinda hit or miss but I ve never waited for more than one drink anywhere in the 9 years I ve lived here. So its not too bad.
Gargoyles is more like a real nice and have front near windows and a back that is quaint like something in the north end. 20/25 bucks a plate! AWESOME FOOD! and WINE.
There is a new place right next to Cristos Pizza on Elm St. that is medertarian of some sort but always smells fantastic..It might be a better option for more people that dont like DIVA(Indian food). GOOD REVIEWS but Ive have never been.
Besides that you can always hit up the Joshua Tree and have a one drink wait and then enjoy all the sports on tv...sox nation and then at like 9, 80;s night starts...bringing back the old school! Its actually pretty fun!
Sangra might be your best bet. You wont wait, good food, good prices high teens a plate. Atmosphere is good and it wont be packed and uncomfortable.
Enjoy
