Viewer’s Choice? Sheesh, they show that EVERY year!

This year's candidates for Viewer's Choice are:

Finding Nemo, Notorious!, The Bourne Identity, and Finding Neverland.

Please note that we almost never get to show Disney films outdoors (and this restriction includes films from Miramax, Pixar, Touchstone and other Disney-owned production companies). This year, however, we have a special dispensation. So I vote for either Nemo or Neverland. Who knows when we'll get another chance to show them?

Are they still looking for Nemo? That is one slippery fish.

Ballots are available at the screenings. If you don't get handed one, just ask the projectionist. Before my era, balloting was also sometimes conducted on the InterTubes, but now that I get to call the shots, we limit voting eligibility to those who actually show up for at least one of the other movies -- and the more you see, the more votes you get to cast for your favorite Viewer's Choice.

Also, Mean Girls was rained out last year -- which is precisely why we've rescheduled it for July 17th.

And, as for backing Disney options this summer, of course it's frustrating that so many family-friendly audience pleasers are usually off-limits for outdoor viewing, but that's exactly why I think we should watch them while we can. Why punish ourselves because Disney has this peculiar and archaic rule? Besides, when I wrote "I vote for either Nemo or Neverland," I was speaking metaphorically. I don't actually get to vote in the Viewer's Choice competition.

Contest not available in all areas. "Viewers' refers to all sentient, literate beings in attendance at actual screenings sponsored by the City of Somerville's SomerMovie Fest. Is there any URL that might show where all of these parks are located?

Seven Hills Park: behind the Holland St. T station and Somerville Theatre

Conway Park: on the south side of Somerville Avenue, about halfway between Porter and Union squares

Foss Park: Broadway and McGrath Highway

Prospect Hill Park: on top of that big hill above Union Square, where the monument is

Hodgkins Park: on the north side of Holland Street, about halfway between Teele and Davis squares

What time do the movies start? If it varies, where would one go to find out?

The movies start at dusk, which varies as the season unwinds. The July shows begin after 8:30 p.m.

By late August, dusk is closer to 7:30 p.m.

You can check official sunset data at many websites, including this one:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=43

Start times will tend to run just a few minutes later than the listed sunset time.

One request, please

Could the city arrange to turn off street lights around these parks while the movies are running? For Seven Hills Park, that would mean all the lights in the park, plus those on the part of Meacham Road adjoining the park.

I would hope they wouldn't do this. Having all the lights off could get dangerous. I'm shocked some of you don't know where all of these well known parks are located. I had so many friends who had games at Conway and Foss. Not to mention Foss has the pool.

I'm pretty sure that the pool is fenced off and locked at night, so I don't see what would be dangerous about turning off the lights.

You completely missed what I was saying. When I mentioned the pool it had nothing at all to do with the lights. The only part of my message that had to do with the lights is the very first part. The rest was about how surprised I am that some people don't know where these popular parks are.
