I noticed that the Davis Square Store 24's signs were taken down this morning and replaced with new Tedeschi Food Shop signage. Anyone know if this is just a token name change (since it's the same company) or if the Tedeschi stores are different than Store 24s?

Also noted: the long-defunct KFC on Mass Ave near the Square has posted menus for their new tenant, Banjos. Looks like their MO is to buy old KFCs and Burger Kings and convert them into Banjos restaurants, serving roast beef, fried seafood, and deli sandwiches. Here's an article about the one in Quincy.

i still call the tedeschi's store24, and at least the ones around allston and elsewhere [i don't really spend any time in davis] are exactly the same inside and keep the same hours. [i.e. a bunch aren't really and never were 24 hours]

/sigh

the times, they are a changin', etc.

Hah. I drove through the Square earlier with some colleagues and was like, "Hey, that was a Store 24 yesterday!" I'm not sure they believed me at first. :)

Tedeschi and Store 24 used to be separate companies, but one of them bought the other years ago. I guess they're only now getting around to removing the redundant brand. (Shaw's still hasn't got rid of the "Star Market" brand.)

i remember when i lived in back bay and used to shop at the star there...that place was awful then and i can only imagine how even more out of place it would be now!

but when i don't feel like driving to the shaws, i do still shop a little at the star near me in quincy. it seems like when they get switched over they get much nicer, so i wish it would happen.

The Prudential Star closed and was replaced by the (much larger) Prudential Shaw's, a couple blocks away.

And "Shtaw's Market" just doesn't have a very good sound to it.

The Store 24/Tedeschi's switch has been in the works for a while; the store has been bagging your stuff in Tedeschi's bags for some time now. Guess it was only a matter of time. On the down side, does this mean we can't sardonically call it "Store 18" anymore?

Ouch. I'm going to forward that one to the Porter Square Neighbors mailing list.

By the way, how do you pronounce Tedeschi? TED-eh-shee ? teh-DEH-shee ? teh-DES-kee ?
