Solstice Celebration

Excited about the long days and hot weather? Itching to dance barefoot in the grass to the beat of a drum? To celebrate the beauty of the green earth? Please join Viriditas, a Boston area Reclaiming group, in celebrating the Summer Solstice! The event will feature a simple ritual for children and adults, followed by sunpainting (a silk painting technique that uses the sun to create patterns in silk) and a potluck meal.

Where: the Somerville Growing Center, 22 Vinal Ave., Somerville MA
When: Friday June 20, beginning at 4 p.m.
Who: Children and Adults interested in participating in an inclusive Witchcraft community

Please bring a thoughtful contribution for potluck after ritual. We will be using percussion instruments, silk scarves and journals. All supplies are provided, but if you have your own and prefer to use them, please bring them. There will be an opportunity to make an optional donation of $5-$15. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Reclaiming events are drug and alcohol free.

After the potluck, another group will be offering another ritual. All ages are welcome. Here is their text:

Worldwide Awakening of Cosmic Mother
date and time: June 20 (rain or shine)
time: 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Felista Dream Blossom and friends will lead a ceremony of Joy, Peace, and Harmony of Oneness with our Divine Mother. Bring dreams to be blessed in movement, meditation and rhythms of rocks, making Fairy circles and Angels songs honoring the Creative Light Force Energy where dreams blossom for ALL.
The exact time of planting the Seed Consciousness of Cosmic Mother into the core of the Earth is 7:59 Eastern time. Bring a towel for seating comfort. Bug spray will be supplied.

you sound like you might be what I'm looking for.

the group that follows you sound like they're completely insane, though.

(what is the/is there an) affiliation?

understood. I was a First Degree Initiate of the Wiccan Church of Canada; I'm not exactly pinned to the wall normal myself. The Odyssean tradition allows for a lot of leeway, though, and I've taken it down a fairly Jungian path. I had looked up your information beforehand, and you sound practical yet passionate, and I enjoy Starhawk's writing. However, the group that follows you...sounds really looped to me. While I'm sure there are members that will cross, I just needed to make sure for my own path.

*I* am less formal than most of my tradition, in point. During Dedication there is a traditional sharing of food by the circle, symbolized by a baked good of some sort. When I was asked what I wanted (now, admittedly, I was 20), I said I wanted Rainbow Teddy Grahams, which were brand new then and just made me giggle.

Practical yet passionate, indeed

For what it is worth, this Odyssean has worked with [livejournal.com profile] redheadedmuse, and you can consider this an unqualified vouching for her.

May I ask what you mean by a "thoughtful" contribution for the potluck?

We call it "thoughtful" to encourage people to think about what they might like to find others have brought to a potluck after a ritual. Basically we're trying to avoid ending up with a dozen bags of potato chips. (I don't mean to exclude potato chips; if potato chips say summer solstice celebration to you, then by all means bring potato chips.) Chocolate, cheese, protein, and fruit are all typically big hits. I'm going to bring a big green salad made from CSA veggies.
