Room needed to teach a class on July 19th

Dear Davis Square-
I am looking to rent a room for one day(July 19) to teach a class. The room needs to be able to comfortably hold 10 people. I am ideally seeking a place in Cambridge/Somerville/Boston with reasonable train access (20 minute walk or less)- Willing to consider Arlington or Medford as well if there is easy bus access... Room doesn't need desks-ideally some chairs would be nice.. massage rooms, small dance studio rooms, open office rooms, open rooms in the back of stores, theatre space can all work.

Looking for a full day (8ish hours) for around $150.

What kind of class is it? Pandemonium Books and Games allows rental of their space, as long as it is sort of geek related. They are in Central Square.

ah- someone else in the boston community just said the same thing- unfortunately I don't think I will pass geek muster- It is an energy healing class.

Another idea is the Dilboy VFW Hall. I'd think it would be really cheap if it was a weekday.

Try the Elizabeth Peabody House on Broadway (near Foss Park). They have theater space and also a big lower room. We work with Doc Madison there, one of the nicest people on this earth. Don't know about a one-day thing, but "relatively cheap" is my impression. They are willing to negotiate.

We really need more public community centers. The city has so many spaces (schools, city hall, libraries, etc.) that would be great for this sort of healthy, community-based sort of thing, and it would benefit the city as well, to rent out the spaces (or offer them for free for events that are free to the public).

I had hoped to start a community-based non-profit that would offer this sort of service, but my life took a drastic turn for the worse and it hasn't been able to happen.

I'm not sure if the room is large enough or if they allow it to be used for that long a time period, but the Harvest Food Coop has a community room available to their members.

And I know the YWCA (there's one in Central Square not too far from the YMCA) that rents out rooms, though I think it's more expensive than what you're looking for.

There was a meeting with the Somerville Arts something (sorry...no breakfast yet) at City Hall last month, and this was one of biggest things brought up - find us space and create a clearinghouse so we know were it is! There were a lot of theater and dance people there, but not very many actually able to perform in the city due to lack of low-cost or free space.

I've taught classes there before, I'm teaching a workshop tomorrow night (http://willoughbybaltic.squarespace.com/circuit-bending-with-jimmie-p/) there as well. It's a great place because you can make a mess (as long as you clean up), and the atmosphere is great for creative things.

Oh, I forgot to mention that it's as cheap as you are going to find in the area. Plus, you can drink beer there, which is critical for me.

also my class is energy healing class-- would the space be conducive to that? There will be seated meditations, group work, journaling etc

It depends. It's a member space, so members get it cheaper, but anyone can rent it. Also depends on what you are, and what you are trying to do. If it's something like a general meeting where you aren't asking for money, then it's dirk cheap. If it's a class type thing you are charging for, then it will still be cheap.

I have a friend who does workshops at The Arlington Center (http://www.arlingtoncenter.org/) and highly recommends it. I have no idea of the rates or their availability, but it might be worth checking with them.
