Reposting from Craigslist: Attempted assault reported at Powderhouse

Please note that this did not happen to me, but I just found this posting on craigslist in the community section and figured the wider the information could be relayed, the better. Stay safe!


"I posted yesterday and today about an incident that occurred early yesterday morning in Powderhouse Square (on Broadway--opposite side of the street from the funeral home)at about 4:15 AM.

I was out jogging because I could not sleep (yes I have learned my lesson)and a man attacked me. As I was screaming he said, "STOP SCREAMING OR I'LL KILL YOU!!! STOP SCREAMING OR I'LL KILL YOU!!" I stopped screaming and was able to get away unharmed. I ran away to Davis Sq, hopped in a cab, headed to the police department, and filed a report.

Here is the description:
-Caucasian male, late 20's/early 30's
-dark brown hair, down to below his ears (think of the criminal in "No Country for Old Men)
-fat (280-300 lbs)
-approx 6'
-eyes are skewed (meaning the opposite of cross-eyes: like a fish)
-clothing: white wife-beater t-shirt, jeans, black tennis shoes
-possibly on drugs: he had a crazed expression on his face

If you have seen think you have seen person, PLEASE notify the Somerville police dept at 617-625-1600. I will be calling them tomorrow to see if they have a detective on the case.

I was fortunate enough to get away from this guy, but he's still out on the streets...."

Maybe i'm just being grumpy but I find it funny that many seem to be "vouching" for this Mike guy. Yes, Davis has its share of characters and I'm not saying everyone who is homeless, or has problems, or is in a group home etc is dangerous. However, many descriptions of this guy in the other threads shows that he is VERY verbally abusive and doesn't have respect for people's space and boundaries.

This to me sounds very different than say the guy who with the stuff raccoon who just says Hi to people. I'm just saying based on what we know of this Mike guy, I would never say he's harmless. He may very well be harmless with regards to physical violence, and I'm not saying/implying he did anything to this woman, but really who knows. I just find it a bit irresponsible to tell people not to worry about a guy who from reports has really bothered people.

IAWTC. Plus, in the other LJ discussions, I saw more than one mention of him getting physical with people - grabbing and shoving were both mentioned.

Mike is in his 50s, doesn't have exotropia/walleye, and has a very different hairstyle than the person who committed the attempted assault reported here.

My point is that Mike's behavior is irrelevant to this post, because if the person who experienced the attempted assault gave a remotely accurate description, her assailant wasn't Mike.

Well that is your opinion and you are of course entitled to it. However, there were many posts about Mike in this thread and links to many other posts about Mike. I saw many people characterizing him as "harmless". It is my opinion that, based upon many of the reports, it's not the smartest move to just discount him as harmless. I went out of my way to say I wasn't accusing him anything, however this thread brought up many topics, including mace, self defense,gender stereotypes, violence vs. rape, early morning jogging etc. In a conversation its natural for things to go off in related directions. I was just offering an alternative opinion that Mike isn't necessarily harmless. I would hate for someone to run into him with their guard completely down because some people on Davis LJ ruled him harmless. I have found that people get complacent and because of the relative safety of the area and the strong sense of community sometimes forget to take care of themselves. Personally, I don't appreciate you pointing out my thread out of a whole conversation of like 115 posts as being irrelevant, especially considering I even had another poster agree with my 2cents. I'm not sure why you've chosen my posts, but I feel that I've more than explained myself and would appreciate you considering other viewpoints before dismissing someone like you did me.
