Bowling?

So, for all the time I've been here I've heard this rumor that there's a bowling/pool place in Davis Square. The rumor also tends to say its a dive.. or they don't serve alcohol.. or something to that effect.

Can anyone clarify this for me? Where it is exactly, name, is it candle or 10pin? Is it bogus?

They have candlepin bowling and pool. No booze but a soda machine. A good jukebox in the pool room to boot. Not exactly a dive. Not modern and flashy by any lengths. More decorated like a 1960's den asthetic.

it's a dive but a fun dive. if you're going to bowl, beware: most of the lanes most nights are filled with league bowlers. but bowling opens up to everyone else around 9ish. they don't serve alcohol. i like it because it's one of the less yuppified places in the square still standing. it's called sacco's bowl haven.

the pool hall is generally uncrowded, has a reasonably priced jukebox and lots and lots of "rough" teenage types.

I don't know the name of the street, but I believe it's the one with the Someday Cafe on the corner (that or the next one over). If you start with your back to the main square, it's on the right side of the street. There's a parking lot across the street from it. Last I was there was a couple years ago, but I had much fun. Candlepin all the way!

yep, Sacco's is awesome - not beautiful, but a fun place to hang out. My Grad student group does social events there and they're always a huge hit. Highly recommended.
