Hey all,

I may be doing a 3-month sublet (August 1 - Nov 1) in Somerville, on Broadway between Teele and Powderhouse Squares. I know it's a rather odd block of time. Unfortunately, I have out-of-state license plates on my car, and won't be eligible to get a Somerville parking pass. Does anyone know if there are any streets in that area that DON'T require resident permits? Or is all of Somerville permit-only? Unfortunately, I do need my car to get to work (far), so ditching the car isn't an option for me.

If the answer to this question is 'No', does anybody know of a person who is willing to rent out a parking spot to me, for those 3 (odd) months? I've posted an ad on Craigslist, but nothing so far.

I'm getting really desperate, I'm willing to pay quite a decent amount!

Thank you all!

I'm pretty sure Broadway doesn't require a permit, so you've lucked out! All the side streets do, though.

Ah, I stand corrected and bow to your superior knowledge of Somerville parking! Which makes sense since you're the one who actually lives there, at least until you move in with me :)

What you might want to do is get out a map, and look at the names of the streets near where you will be living. Then look each street up on this document and see if it is listed. If it is NOT listed, then it should be OK to park there. But read the signs just to be sure.

the signs don't say you need a permit. the side streets that have signs, you get ticketed on, but broadway and a couple side streets are not permitted. if you want i can take a picture of the signs.

Most, if not all, of Broadway west of Powderhouse has signs requiring permits from 12:01 AM to 6 AM. If you go far enough east on Broadway (past Cedar?) there's unrestricted parking, except for street cleaning times.

Or maybe the PDF you found is out of date? They'd have to be exceptionally lax about enforcement to account for [livejournal.com profile] cowhockey not getting one ticket for parking without a permit in nearly a year of living and parking on Broadway. I know [livejournal.com profile] cowhockey's gotten a street sweeping ticket, and you'd think if they were ticketing an unpermitted car for being parked on the wrong side of the street for street sweeping, they'd nail you for the lack of permit as well.

They should really make this information easier to find!

Willow Street is non-permit.

I think on_reserve meant Willow Ave. Half of Willow is permit; half isn't. The half near Broadway and Ball Square is not permit. The half near Porter Square is resident-permit only.

But is parking on the street for three months an option? Wouldn't you cop ~6 tickets from street cleaning?

Do said housemates have a guest permit you can use for the (OCCASIONAL! - if you use it every day they'll get pissed) time you can't find parking on Bway? If not, can they get one?

Not only will "they" get pissed, but you'll get a ticket if you use a visitor permit on the same car for more than two days in a single week (Mon-Sat). They keep a list and, as with most Somerville parking rules, enforce with zeal.

Oops, sorry, misread your post... I read it as - you wanted to leave your car on the street for three months and you wouldn't be around! Don't ask me why I read it that way! You should be able to park on the street... worst case, there's always the Alewife garage but I doubt it will get to that.

You may be able to get one month permit passes from the Somerville parking office. You can get passes like that when you have a rental car, and a friend of mine got one while she was using her brother's car while he was stationed in Iraq. You could probably call 311 and they will give you information...

Did you talk with the Somerville Parking and Traffic office about buying a monthly temporary parking permit? Because they do offer those.

Hey! I know you!

I really hope you can find a parking solution because then we would be neighbors.

Everyone who is chiming in to help ... thanks and keep the suggestions coming. This OP is one cool cat!
