Happy Holiday everyone...

I was researching a new camera before I head on a long trip in a week and I realized I couldn't find my copy of the July 2008 issue of Consumer Reports that rated cameras.  Does anyone here have that issue that I can borrow for a couple days?  I've got June and August, but I can't seem to find July.  I'll have to ask my housemate when she gets back from Firefly, but I was hoping to do some camera shopping over the weekend.

Thanks!

If you can't find it, may I recommend: http://www.dpreview.com/

They have wonderful example photos so you can see exactly how the camera's lacking will manifest in your pictures.

I'd like to second the vote from dpreview. I've bought several cameras now on their recommendation and have never been disappointed. Also, their reviews are *extremely* comprehensive.

I'm comparing new Canons myself. Waffling between the SD950 IS and the SD1100...

The Somerville Library at least used to have CR. At the main branch over on Highland near Union, not the Davis branch. They're likely closed today, but I'd guess they'd be open tomorrow.

You could do a lot worse than talking to the people at Cameras, Inc. They've consistently helped me out, plus you get to paw at the goods a bit.

I can second that. I've only had good experiences with them and found the people I talked to be very knowledgeable and friendly.

The Somerville library carries Consumer Reports. The branch here in Davis has the current issues in a rack right by the front door.

I don't rmemeber which branches are open on Saturdays, though.

I'd trust DPReview way more than CR on things related to cameras. At least on the higher-end cameras they post an annotated MP3 file of the camera taking a series of shots (until the buffer or card fills up) and from that they determine the delay between shots and ultimate speed.

That all said, Canon P&S cameras are good, but for a while the Fuji line had way better quality (around the time of the FD30/FD31 or something like that). Sadly, I think Fuji gave in to the megapixel war and their newer cameras have more noise.

It may be a little late for this now, but you can go online and subscribe to Consumer Reports for a month for $6. Then you can call up all of the articles relating to cameras (or any other topic of your choice). I find that this works well for me even though we have a subscription to CR (courtesy of my in-laws) because I often have a hard time finding the information in the magazines when I want it, even though I know it exists somewhere.
