Teele Square Zip Cars MISSING

Anyone know what happened to the 4 zip cars on Clarendon Ave in Teele Square behind Kee Kar Lau?  I emailed ZipCar to ask them but haven't heard anything.  That was my favorite zip car spot.  I'm devastated!  Can someone loan me a Prius for a few years and pay all my gas expenses?

I noticed that the other day! The Mazda 3 (Mooney) that used to be there was my favorite car ever. A very convenient location, alas. I guess they lost the right to lease spots there or whatever.

Logic would dictate that Zipcar was not getting enough business or the location was too out-of-the-way to be convenient to its users.

They have a new location a bit further down Broadway, on Victoria St. Maybe they got a better price or the owner of the old lot didn't renew their lease. But it's not quite as convenient.

Well, then we've got option three, they found an opportunity to get those cars closer to the T and took it. A quick look at Zipcar.com shows there are plenty still in the general Davis area.

I emailed ZipCar about this, as that was my preferred booking spot too, and they let me know that that location had been closed effective June 30. Usually, they're better about communicating openings and stuff and usually I don't have to wait as long for a reply on my questions...maybe closings are a different matter, but in any case, I miss the Teele Square location (Mooney, nooooooooo!).

The logic of "everytime I go to book a car at the Teele location someone else has booked it?" Or the logic of "I walk by this lot every single day and I almost never see the cars there (in the preclosing days) because someone's rented them out today?" Because that's what my experience dictated.

My theory is that they got a cheaper place to park the cars and took it.

Here's the reply I got from Zip Car. I wrote back and asked them to tell me why the location was closed and whether or not they would be opening anything in the vicinity to compensate. I also disagree with thetathx1138's logic. This was always a very popular zip car location (judging from how far in advance I needed to book). I don't think they'd bother to put four cars there -- many zip car locations only have two or even one -- if it was an unpopular spot

Thank you for your email. The Teele Square location was closed on June 30th 2008. The cars that were there have been moved to other locations.

Ford Escape Eloise and Civic Clement was moved to Watertown Sq/Pleasant St

Prius Philly was moved to North Harvard St/Western Ave

Versa Vinson was moved to Medford St/Pearl St

If you see the email reply I got from ZipCar you'll notice the cars weren't moved closer to the T. I think it's more likely that whoever was renting the parking spots to them got a better offer.

I think the nearest Prius is my usual Prius, Provence (at the Tufts Jackson Gym location).

That's the nearest one I know about too. It's not too inconvenient for me since I can ride my bike over there from Teele in under five minutes, but if they were to make one of the two behind the gas station in Teele a Prius too (or instead) I would be all for that.

The convenience of the Teele Square location was my main motivation for selling my car and joining zip car. I just wish there had been some advance notice.

Zipcar lost their lease, and without too much notice, otherwise they would have kept the cars there. (I have inside info.. :) )
