hi all.
i'm looking for a repair place to go to for the state emissions test (i need to reregister my car here since i just moved to davis). i was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place that 1) won't take advantage of me price-wise, 2) is woman-friendly, and 3) won't treat me like an idiot because i know very little about cars.

i filled up my uhaul with gas at jack's gas on mass ave and the guys there were making my skin crawl. i don't want to have to go through that again!

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) thanks!

I went to the Gulf Station in Somerville, it's 212 Broadway,
Phone: (617) 628-8314.

They were very helpful, not disrespectful, and gave me free car advice. I recommend them. They do registration inspections as well as the inspections that the insurance agency requires. They're also open on Saturdays.

Avoid Mobil Stations from my experience. And the place that used to be a Mobil Station on the corner of Prospect and Broadway (?) -- the corner with Koreana on it. They tend to overcharge you for little things that they find wrong.

If you want cheap full-service gas (not inspections, just fill-ups) Teele Square Auto always has the best gas prices in Somerville, in my experience. It's on Broadway (somerville broadway) just west of Teele Square, which is one square west of Powderhouse, and one square northwest of Davis.

Inspection is a flat fee anywhere in Mass.--it's $29. If your car is a late enough model, and/or well-maintained enough that passing the inspection should be a slam-dunk, then you can go anywhere. If you want to go to a place that has no incentive to charge you for unneeded repairs, there's a place on Mystic Ave. on the Somerville/Medford line that does inspections and only inspections--no repairs. I used to go there when I lived in Medford and Malden. They were quick although they were often busy around the end of the month.

I second the place on Mystic Ave. It's 'MASS INSPECTION 710 MYSTIC STREET SOMERVILLE' Sorry for the caps, I took it straight from this very helpful website, http://vehicletest.state.ma.us/teststations/sstations.html

Nope, Mystic Ave is on the other side of Somerville. Follow Mystic Valley Parkway around to the Medford Square exit, turn right and then bear left onto Mystic Ave, and it's about a mile down on the right, across from a ramp to I-93 and under a huge billboard.
