Hi-

Anyone here speak Portuguese? I have a Brazilian couple who come in every other week to do some house cleaning. They are very nice but their command of English is slight (and frankly gets slighter when I try to explain some of the house things I want them to attend to). I've tried the online translation tools but this couple just seem to draw a blank when I show them the translation and I have no idea how garbled it is. I'd like to keep using their service but the language thing is getting frustrating.

Can anyone translate a paragraph or two?

I definitely don't know more than a few polite (and not so polite) phrases of Portuguese, but there is [livejournal.com profile] learnportuguese that should be helpful. It's pretty much the same as [livejournal.com profile] denglish is for German.

Make sure you're translating into Brazilian Portuguese. From what I understand it is substantially different from Portugal-Portuguese (for lack of a better term).

That is correct. I highly recommend that you find someone that speaks Brazilian Portuguese, not European Portuguese. The difference is quite substantial.

I have a co-worker that speaks Brazilian Portuguese. If you can send me the paragraph in a private message or post it here I will see if she can translate it...
