NO ATTACK on IRAN
Saturday July 19th
Arlington Center (near Starbucks, Mass. Ave and Medford St.) at 10 AM

10am: Begin with a vigil and music in Arlington Center.
Bring signs and banners focused on Iran

11am: Brass Band leads us on a march from Arlington Center to Porter Square in Cambridge. Bring drums, kazoos, etc., for the march.

Noon: Gathering and speaker at Porter Square (near T-station).

U.S. officials say Israel is mounting a “full court press” to get the Bush Administration to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. The United States is currently conducting covert operations against Iran. Congress is considering a resolution endorsing a U.S. air, sea and land blockade of Iran in violation of international law. In June Israeli jets conducted a military exercise over the Eastern Mediterranean, and on July 8 and 10 Iran test-fired missiles.

At a time when voices calling for real diplomacy and negotiations are being silenced, it is up to us to speak out clearly against another illegal war, which would be a catastrophe for all involved.

ArtBeat starts at 11 am, with the first performance at 11:45 am. So some participants in this march may want to break off at Cameron Avenue or Meacham Road and head for the festival.

I'm not that up on Iran. I just see the headlines. What covert operations is the US government engaged in and are they really covert if you know enough about them to post to LJ?

I wish I could do this but some friends are doing some things at Artbeat that I already committed to. This March is definitely more important and my friends would have joined. But we can't back out of the Artbeat now.

The time for marching in parades is over.

It's time to learn to march with militias.

Protesting Iraq had -zero- effect... the era of protest is over.

Protests no longer work, but I'm sure boycotting will. What to boycott, though, is beyond me.

Protests didn't stop Vietnam either. But we know a lot more about Vietnam because the protesters educated themselves and while their voices didn't stop the war they were heard. Protests rarely work but it is a louder way to at least educate people and put forth an effort. People don't protest enough in todays day and age but they sure do like to complain and do nothing.
