Mmmmm, I smell a hot juicy repost...

Redbones will sponsor its annual Pig Pickin’ and Benefit for the Somerville Homeless Coalition on Monday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. Rain date is Monday, Aug. 11. Tickets are $25; $10 for children under 10. Reservations are not necessary.

A pit master from Redbones will fire up the custom-made, portable “pig rig” early Monday morning and slow smoke a couple of hogs until they’re ready for pickin’ hours later. In addition to the whole hogs, there’ll be loins, butts and bellies, plus slaw, corn on the cob, greens, cornbread and watermelon and a choice of beer, lemonade or iced tea. The smoking, pickin’ and eating take place under tents set up in front of the restaurant. Live music will add to the upbeat evening.

“I am always taken with how much Redbones does for our community,” said SHC Executive Director Mark Alston-Follansbee. “The SHC needs to raise money in order to support our programs and we are grateful to Redbones for choosing us again this year as beneficiary of the funds taken in at the Pig Pickin’.”

Since 1985, the Somerville Homeless Coalition has been improving the lives of homeless and working poor people in Somerville and the Greater Boston area by providing housing and supportive services to end homelessness while fostering independence.

Redbones, at 55 Chester Street in Davis Square, is open for lunch, dinner, late-night dining and Sunday brunch. Delivery, take out and catering are also available. For information about having a Pig Pickin’ for your next event, call Redbones at 617-628-2200 or visit www.redbones.com and click on catering.
