I stumbled into PJ Ryan's around midnight last night and saw Joe Curtatone and a medieval celtic band from Italy.  Anyone know the back-story to this?  I overhead someone saying that the mayor had arranged for them to come to Somerville.  What a bizarre scene.

They actually showed up on Thursday night too, at the DSLJ meetup.

Yes. They did not perform Thursday night, they just hung out at the bar with the Mayor.

They weren't in full custume however at the DS meetup. They were just in street clothes.

They were there on Thursday night for our Davis Square meetup. I believe the "official" story is because they played at Artbeat.

The Mayor discovered them on a trip to Somerville's sister city of Gaeta, Italy. He arranged for them to come hear and play ArtBeat Friday evening.

I didn't realize Gaeta was our sister city.

I've been there twice.

I have no idea what the story is, but I'd love to know what the name of the band is.

Friday's ArtBeat program has a short description.

Yesterday, the Mayor told me he would try to get them booked into the Burren before they return to Italy. But no guarantees.

They're called Rota Temporis. Three drummers and three Bigpipers(?)... Bagpipists(?)... Whatever, you call them, they were a sight to behold.

Here's a YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4tzVGH_ltE)

They were certainly a sight to behold! XD

[livejournal.com profile] ifotismeni and I made our way to see them Friday night. I must have looked like a pervert because I couldn't stop staring at the torso of two of the band members. But seriously! They were so slim and small that they made me feel huge! (and I'm not big at all. You can ask ifotismeni and ron newman.)

she's a traitor!
