I'm sure this comes up frequently here, but nonetheless...

I had my car inspected (which goes along with a whole story that I won't embarrass myself by telling) (except to say that you can cruise from I-93 around the entire Mystic Valley exit ramp and into the Century Bank parking lot, with no engine power, and I hope this information is never relevant to you).

Anyway, the car dude says one of my turn signals is out, but it's not the bulb or the fuse. Where is a good place to go have wiring looked at? This is a 15-year-old Mazda.

I live north of Davis by Broadway.

Arco on Clarendon (in Teele Square) is AWESOME.

Thirded. I had two pretty bad experiences at Teele Sq. Auto, and Arco saved me and my car! Great prices and knowledgeable people.

I use Ball Square Auto Repair, and they have always worked out great for me. They are thorough, relatively inexpensive, and quick! However, I've never had an electrical problem to take to them.

I use ABJ Automotive, and I’m thrilled with them. They’re extremely honest, and good at letting you know if there’s a cheap way you can get something done. The one downside in past years has been that they were so busy it was hard to schedule with them, but I think they’ve hired more staff because the last couple years they’ve just told me to bring my car in as soon as was convenient for me when I called them.

If you go in, tell them Jay Sekora with the old green Mercedes recommended them.

I've used ABJ off and on over the last 10 years and frankly I have had very mixed experience with them. They (Al) are completely casual- sort of controlled chaos - and all that - which is nice but when you want a straight answer it is not so nice (imagine dealing with the car talk guys- you don't want bad jokes, etc.)

-GOOD: they dealt with a brake squeaking issue for low $ that other shops quoted $$$

-BAD they did some work on my alternator and gave me the car with a dead battery

-BAD they replaced a power window in my car and it has squeaked and groaned ever since

-HUH? they reported a broken oil seal and said the dealer was responsible. I went to two different dealers and they reported no trace of the problem (no idea. no result but a lot of wasted time).

So... very mixed on ABJ.

Though it's a bit of a hike, and they're cash only, we love the guys at Good News Garage in Cambridgeport. They happily deal with our wacky car, are totally honest and up front, and reasonably priced.

streetwise is amazing. they are very respectful of old cars and spend time with you on the phone explaining what's wrong with your car, what must be done now, what could wait for a little longer. i found them through the car talk website, where they have glowing reviews.
