Body shop recommendation

My girlfriend's prius has had a series of unfortunate incidents which have left the bumpers (just the plastic covers, not the actual bumpers) in need of replacement. Does anyone have recommendations of place to go (or avoid) to have this done? Also, has anyone happened to have a plastic bumper replaced on a toyota? It seems like it ought to be fairly cheap, since the bumper basically snaps on.

I also had some work done by Collex in Malden, and they also were the cheapest of the three places we got quotes from. They did incredibly good work and even detailed my car before they returned it. I highly recommend them.

I had the same problem with my Prius, and actually my bumper ended up being fixed, not replaced.

I accidentally ripped off part of the plastic cover of my rear bumper while parking the car. So I just bought 1/4" marine rope for $5 and tied it up. It's been at least two years and hasn't fallen off once... however, about once every two or three months someone stops me and says "Oh yeah, I can fix that for you right now for a hundred bucks, man".

Don't get me started. In 3 years of parking in Somerville, I've had:
- hit and run, wheel well mashed in
- door dented via either tall vehicle or shopping cart
- keyed from front to back
- many misc dings and scratches

There is a viable segment of the urban community that lives, works, shops, craps, and does everything else in the city, and they never leave. A network of convenience and corner stores will suffice for their needs after they leave their tedious office job that is accessible by public transit. For these select few, as long as they are content to spend the vast majority of their lives constrained by whatever public infrastructure allows, not owning a car will suffice.

I suspect, though, that many of these people are VERY happy to have friends who have cars on a pretty regular basis.

For people like me, who do physical work for a living, and need to shlep around things like tools, materials, and supplies, there's no way that this would work for me.

Right over on Russell Street just through Davis Square. The guy is great to deal with. I've sent two of my cars there and recommended him without reservation to the president of the company I worked at. The whole experience was completely painless and the work was first class.

He's at least worth seeing for a quote.

+1. Don't know about price however, since my incident was covered by insurance. But yeah, they do quality work.

It's in Brighton, but I've dealt with them twice-- once when I was rear-ended (insurance covered the costs, no idea of their price on this) and they fixed it within a day, not the week that another shop that seemed to care more about adding huge speakers than fixing cars estimated. The owners are father and son, and the father is especially good about communicating and being helpful.

The other time I went, they re-sealed my doors after a solo spinout (no one else around, thankfully) last winter where we hit a hard snowbank and dented the passenger doors so that they bent out at the top. He fixed it within minutes on the spot, and charged an absolute pittance.

Definitely get a quote from them- even if it isn't the cheapest or closest, they're the best in town IMHO.

This won't help you now, since school isn't in session, but for the archives, Somerville High School has an auto body shop that will fix cars for cheap. My husband had some dents fixed, and they did a great job. As I recall, they only charged for parts (and we gave them enough extra $ to buy pizza for the kids) the downside is that it can take a lot longer than a regular fix-it shop.

I highly recommend Dick's body shop. I had some rear end damage on a Corolla and they did a great job and were very professional and easy to deal with. Really close to Davis too.
