Auditions approaching!
Aug. 4th, 2008 12:49 pmOur group is called the Post-Meridian Radio Players and we produce live, staged radio the way they did it back in the 1930's and 40's. We even use live sound effects (foley), often created with unexpected everyday objects.
This is a great opportunity for theatre folks to branch out into an exciting new medium. Come and see how your acting changes when there's no blocking involved! This is also a great chance for people that have never acted before to get their feet wet without all the commitment of blocking and memorization. Actors are not required to fully memorize their lines, rehearsals will be approximately once a week on a fairly flexible schedule, there is minimal costuming and a 4 performance run, October 29th, 30th, 31st and November 1st.
What we need from you is your voice! We've got opportunities for actors to stretch their vocal chords! We’re looking for:
-A variety of accents, including British and French
-A variety of age and vocal ranges
-One male role and one female role will require singing
In addition, one play may have an opportunity to cast an individual that plays a period appropriate melodic instrument such as the guitar, flute, recorder or harp (just to name a few possibilities).
Here are the plays that we will be producing for this year's show:
"The Baby Snooks Show" (comedy)
The 1946 Halloween episode of the classic Golden Age comedy that originally starred Fanny Brice. Written by Philip Rapp.
"The Ballad of Reynardine" (horror)
Original adaptation by Renée Johnson and original story written by Athan Chilton. Based on an old English folk ballad about a mysterious young man and his fey kin.
"Nightfall: The Tell-Tale Heart" (supernatural horror/suspense)
One of Edgar Allen Poe's most chilling narratives, adapted for CBC Radio's Nightfall horror anthology series by Len Peterson in 1980.
Auditions will be held at the Unity Church of Somerville, 6 Williams Street, in Somerville. You may audition on either Tuesday, September 2nd or Wednesday, September 3rd, both at 7pm. Callbacks, if needed, will take place on Thursday, September 4th at 7PM

Date: 2008-08-04 06:22 pm (UTC)We perform live on stage, in the fashion of shows like "A Praire Home Companion." Everything is done live, including sound effects. The shows *are* recorded for future airing on the radio or to be released as podcasts, but the audiences come to see how it's done, love.
