The Somerville Museum presents the following five concerts in its 2008-09 Early Music Afternoons in the museum’s galleries, featuring music from the 16th to 19th centuries performed on period instruments under the direction of Somerville residents Carol Lewis, viola da gamba, and Olav Chris Henriksen, lute. Guest artists in the series include Pamela Dellal, mezzo-soprano; and Janet Haas, Paul Johnson, Mai-Lan Broekman and Alice Mroszczyk, viols.
Concerts are held at the Somerville Museum at 1 Westwood Road, at the corner of Central Street. Admission is $17, $12 for students, seniors and museum members. Reservations are recommended. An informal reception follows each program, where the audience is invited to meet and talk with the performing artists. For reservations or more information, call 617-666-9810.

- · Guitar of the North: A Norwegian Family’s 19th Century Musical Legacy — Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. Music by Molino, Scheidler, Bull, Kjaerulf and others performed by Henriksen, 19th-century guitar.
- · Echoes of the Danube: German, Italian and English Music for Solo Viola da Gamba — Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. Music by Schenck, Virgiliano, Corkine and J.S. Bach performed by Lewis, solo viola da gamba.
- · Britannia Triumphans: English Music from the Courts of Charles I and Charles II — Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at 3 p.m. Music by Jenkins, Lawes, Lanier, Purcell, Corbetta and others performed by the El Dorado Ensemble (Lewis, Haas, Broekman, Johnson and Mroszczyk, violas da gamba; Henriksen, Baroque lute and Baroque guitar.
- · From the Sun King’s Court: French Baroque Music from the Court of Louis XIV — Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m. Music by Marais, de Visee, Pinel, Ste-Colombe and others performed by Duo Maresienne (Lewis, viola da gamba; Henriksen, lute).
- · O Primavera: Music of Renaissance Italy — Sunday, May 10, 2009, at 3 p.m. Music by Gastoldi, Vecchi, Galilei, Terzi and others performed by Dellal, mezzo-soprano, and El Dorado Ensemble.
