Latest Update: owner found! The cat's 4 months old, and his owner is trying to get him acclimated to the outdoors. So his "I'm not really an outdoor cat" behavior is really more "Let me get the hang of this...". :) So, if you see him around Hancock in the future, say hi, pet, but don't worry. If you see him terribly much further than Hancock, you may want to give a heads-up. The owner is very grateful for everyone's concern, and says he's going to get the kitty a collar.

Update: Animal Control is posting to the city's lost-and-found website, and in the mean time a friend is taking care of him. No shelter, yay!

I found a gray and white kitten on Hancock St., between Summer and Highland. If you think he's yours, please contact me! He is currently in my house, tomorrow morning I'll be giving him to Animal Control.

Description of kitten:
Wicked friendly. No collar. He's probably less than a year, more than 5 months (but may be older than a year - I'm bad with judging age). Has some distinctive gray spots on his pink nose, and patches of grey on the backs of his white legs. White belly, white muzzle.

I saw him on Hancock without a collar on Monday morning, and then tonight some other people were fretting over him. I called 311, who asked me to keep him overnight and leave a message for Animal Control. Since the cat is SUPER friendly and let me pick him up to take him in, that's what I'm doing.

despite the use of "cat" vs. "kitten", i'm assuming it is the same as the animal mentioned in http://ringrose.livejournal.com/31681.html (although i will crosspost to see if those folk agree)

Yes, it looks like the same one.

It would be a shame for this kitten to end up in animal control, rather than someone's house. It's really well socialized, and I would be afraid that the experience of being taken away might change that.

Is it just the angle of the photo, or does that cat have the largest head EVER?

a lot of kittens go through a gangly stage. i would guess that this fellow is only a few months old -- 5 or so?

I think I know whose cat that is! I'm pretty sure it's my friend Paul's, who lives on Hancock right where you found him--I forget what his name is (the cat, that is), but he is only half-grown, hence being skinny, and he does have a human. I'm going to try to call him, but in the meantime, please hang on to him, and drop me an e-mail at robin *at* mindspring *dot* com, OK? Thanks!

Hey, I'm holding onto the kitty for now. If it is your friend's cat, tell him not to worry, that he's been fed and petted. If it is his cat and he needs to contact me, my email is bigbadmael AT hotmail DOT com.

Hope this works out!

By letting him run around outside with no collar? I hope the cat is at least neutered. WTF?

(No, I don't expect you to be able to answer these questions, of course. I'm glad you were more responsible with the little guy than his owner apparently was.)

I was holding onto the kitty and as far as I can tell he was not neutered. He has been returned to his owner, whom I hope takes care of it soon.

Hey! My cat is in the news!

I am indebted to Robin Moore for pointing me to the Davis Sq LJ. I had no idea there were so many helpful and attentive people in my neighborhood. Thanks amethyst, thanks Serena for watching over him! He's back home and I promise to get him a collar directly.

His name is Noh'nah'me'... it's a bit of a story.

He is new cat on the block and I've only been letting him out in the last few weeks. He was from a country litter and unfamiliar with the complexities of city life. I've been teaching him about the outdoors bit by bit. (look car! run away!)

He will have a webcam if he picks a stable spot to sleep in. I suppose in the modern world a cat needs to list his LJ on his tag at least as much has his address!

Yaaay! Hey, if you're going to let him outdoors, consider getting him a microchip. That way a vet or Animal Control person can just run a reader over him and phone you.

In general, though, city cats are safer from traffic, wild animals, other cats, dogs, disease, and sickos when kept indoors. I know you, you've taken care of my Smudge, and I respect you, but I'd feel like a negligent slug if I didn't say so.

He's wikkid cute! Smudge says prrrrrrrrrr.

He is chipped. But as you can see, there's no way for the average person to tell that. He is also flea treated so he doesn't need a flea collar.

He is part Siamese which explains why he is so conversational.

I may have to start a web page for him. If he will be charming the neighbors I have to make sure he doesn't end up overfed.
