Tomorrow - Wednesday, August 27 -- is the last day to register to vote for the September 16 state primary.
City election departments are open tomorrow until 8 pm to accept registrations. In Somerville, go to City Hall at 93 Highland Avenue. In Cambridge, go to the Election Department at 51 Inman Street. In Medford ... I assume you go to Medford City Hall, but I'm not 100% positive.
Contested races I know of on the September Democratic primary ballot:

Contested races I know of on the September Democratic primary ballot:
- US Senate - John Kerry (incumbent) vs Ed O'Reilly
- 34th Middlesex State Rep (parts of Somerville and Medford): Carl Sciortino (incumbent, but not on ballot; you must use a sticker or write-in) vs Bob Trane
- 29th Middlesex State Rep (part of Cambridge and Watertown): Blank ballot as a result of Rachel Kaprelian's resignation to become Registrar of Motor Vehicles. All candidates are running sticker campaigns.
- 35th Middlesex State Rep (parts of Medford and Malden): See
cos's separate post for more information on this race.

Date: 2008-08-27 12:56 am (UTC)Several steps are required for candidates' names to be printed on the ballot. Sciortino collected more than enough signatures, which were certified by the cities of Medford and Somerville. Before turning the certified signatures in to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Sciortino left them in his office. When he returned to pick them up, they were gone.
"Leaving my signatures in an unsecured location was an error in judgment," Sciortino told voters in the mailing. "I take full responsibility for this mistake, and I apologize for the distraction it has caused. Although my name will not appear on the ballot, you will be able to vote for me either by placing a sticker on the ballot or by writing in my name. I hope that I can still count on your vote. Together, we have accomplished a lot for the families of Medford and Somerville over the past four years, and I want to continue that work. I ask for your vote in the Democratic primary on September 16."
