Helping A Friend Find Boston Area Housing
Aug. 28th, 2008 02:06 amHi everyone!
My friend is moving to the Boston area and is looking for housing. Here are her requirements, quoted from her LJ:
-Less than $900 a month including utilities or $800 a month without utilities
-Accessible by public transportation (I like T better than bus, but bus is fine)
-Sanitary and does not violate building codes too flagrantly
-Respectful, non-smoking housemates
She is OK living with animals. She is a cool, very geeky person. Her LJ is
etotheipi.
Does anyone have any leads? If you do, please contact me and I'll forward it on to her.
Thanks!

Date: 2008-08-28 11:16 am (UTC)I'm still trying to figure out how to use LJ effectively (that's why no e-mail). Anyways, there's still one room left open at my place in Davis Square. It's $660/month, and July's utilities were $27.65 shared between 4 people Electric and Gas, and around $25 each for Cable. Below is my pre-written posting I put on Craigslist.
Here's the details:
Location: It's a 2 minute walk to Davis Square, the bus line, and the T. It's enough of a distance where you can just about hear the performers playing on the square if you're wanting to check it out.
Note: It takes about 26 minutes to get to Watertown Square by taking the Red Line to Harvard Square (10 minutes), and the 71 bus to get to Watertown Square (16 minutes).
It takes about 30 minutes to get to Boston Common, taking the Red Line directly to Park St.
Parking: Street parking is hardly ever a problem, includes 2 guest parking passes for visitors.
House: Top floor of a 2 Family House. There are 4 Bedrooms total, all wood floors, except for the top middle room. I live in the smallest room, which is 12'6" X 8' with a good sized closet, a window facing south, and an AC unit. The other three rooms have at least 25% - 33% more space.
There is only 1 Bathroom, so we'd have to coordinate shower times in the morning.
Also Includes: Free Washer/Dryer in basement, Living room, Dining room, Balcony facing the street (no backyard), Kitchen with Gas Stoves (no dishwasher), spacious pantry that includes 2 refrigerators, and 2 storage closets (one near the entrance door, and one in the dining area). Basically, there's more room here than anyone knows what to do with.
Cost: Rent is $660/month. Utilities are Gas, Electric, and RCN Cable that includes Internet with Wireless set-up.
Pets: No pets, sorry!
About us: I'm a guy, 29 years old, am a vegetarian, and also a non-smoker. I'm originally from Seattle, WA. I like it clean and would like others who enjoy living in a clean house, too. I work from home, but I sometimes commute to meet with my clients. All I own is a 42" 1080P HDTV with a Playstation 3, a rice-cooker, a few dishes, and a cooking pot - which is available for my roomates to use. I try not to own a lot of things, as I'm pretty nomadic, and will only stay at this place for at least another year. I usually play basketball for a few hours at a court two blocks away, and get together with a few friends on poker nights. FYI, I'll probably be trying to find a special deal with RCN, or might switch over to Comcast.
The other two roomates are guys, mid 20's, one works for his own company and the other is a grad student at Harvard.
Anyways, I'm pretty straightforward about the place. I've lived in West Roxbury, Back Bay, Cambridge, Allston/Brighton - and Davis Square is by far my favorite place. I'm sorry there's no pictures, but if everything sounds good so far, it might be good just to check out the place and the area if you've never been to Davis Square before. Feel free to ask any questions.
