Howdy folks,
I'm the communications nerd for the Somerville Garden Club (SGC).
We have monthly meetings that are free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible every second Wednesday of the month, 7pm, at the TAB Building, 167 Holland St., second floor.
In case you don't have a calendar handy, that's TONIGHT.
Our website: http://www.somervillegardenclub.org/
Each meeting includes announcements, volunteer sign-ups for various activities, a round table for asking any plant or dirt-related question your heart desires (we have experts on everything from orchids to hostas to vermiculture), a lecture, and a raffle for various garden items (mainly plants) to close out the evening. Memberships are available for $25 each and there are sample newsletters for visitors to enjoy.
Tonight's lecture will be "A Place to Take Root: The Evolution of the Common Flower Pot" by author and historian Susan Tamulevich, tracing the development of the flower pot from ancient Egypt to today's green roofs.
THEN, on Saturday, 20 September 2008, the SGC will be holding our annual PLANT SALE from 9am-1pm, right smack dab in the middle of Davis Square.
Details are on the main website and also on their own page (which includes drop-off locations if you'd like to donate plants and details on how to volunteer if you can't make tonight's meeting to sign up) here: http://www.somervillegardenclub.org/plantsale.html
