A jogger was reportedly grabbed and pushed up against a wall around 10:30 pm last Wednesday night. Fortunately, she was able to get away. This happened on the pedestrian stairs that go under the commuter rail tracks, on Sacramento St. past Beacon.

According to today's Boston.com article, which unlike most of the other reports described it as a sexual assault, it wasn't reported to police until Monday. On Monday night Somerville and Cambridge police each put out a robo-call to area residents, and there were several news reports about it today.

From Wbztv.com:
"The suspect is described as a 40-year-old white man about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with a medium build. Police say the suspect has light brown, lengthy and slightly curly hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing jeans and a baseball cap and was riding an old looking bike."

Sorry for the victim, hope she was not too scared. I have never had any problems in that area. At times there are some loitering teenagers who seem to have nothing better to do, near the bike ramps. But they've never been rude or anything, just smoking pot or whatever. There is a homeless person who has been sleeping just off the underpass, but he seems innocuous. There used to be a time when graffiti kept appearing, the usual "kill a yuppy" type. But since they've put the unbreakable neons and since they've let kids paint the walls with some graffiti-proof varnish, things have calmed down. I've seen cops waiting in their car near the traffic light to Lowell St, with lights off, occasionally. I think they should do that more often.

Yet again, use common sense people. Both men and women should travel with others late at night. Though 10:30 on a weeknight doesn't sound so bad we're in a city and that over pass area is bound to have some sketchy people sometimes.

... Dude. It's ten fucking thirty in the evening. It is not so bad. Way to blame the victim.

Is that the underpass right next to Shaw's? I always thought that was pretty sketchy. When I use it (which is actually a lot) I make sure no one is coming and that no one is already in it. It's a perfect area for an attack to strike! I feel so bad for this girl.

it's next to the small Star Market (that still hasn't been renamed to Shaw's) on Beacon Street. Not the Shaw's in the Porter Square shopping center.
