Break-ins up last week; please lock those windows

We had a summer with only a handful of break-ins in the police blotter each week; few enough to count on the fingers of one hand. But last week there were 18. Car break-ins are up too.

July and August are usually the peak months for burglaries. Let's try not to have a peak in September.

Usually there is a spike in break-ins in the spring, when folks throw open their windows and forget to close them when they go out. A Fall spike is unusual, but as the economy worsens, we can expect more bold behavior.

Especially be sure to lock upper-story windows that lead to fire escapes.
