I went yesterday to the final day of Somerville High School's adult evening ed registration to sign up for Portuguese for Beginners. And they told me that they need 5 students to make a class, but only one and a half had enrolled so far. (This is the first year the the city's night school is offering Portuguese.)

The Principal, Mike Ciampa said that he would put off the deadline and the start of a Portuguese class for another week if we can hustle up 3-4 more students to make a class.

Please help spread the word! We need 3 more students to commit by this coming Monday or Tuesday to save beginners Portuguese class!  C'mon, it'll be fun!!

If you know of anyone who may be interested, here are the basic facts . . .

Will the class be taught from a European perspective or will it focus on Brazilian Portuguese? There is a huge difference. Thanks.

el cubano 15, I was about to ask the same thing. The description should be changed to add in which type of Portuguese this class is. The terms Portuguese and Spanish are tossed rather loosely in this country. I know when I see a Spanish class that doesn't say otherwise, I assume it to be Latin American Spanish and not Spain Spanish, which is completely different then the Spanish spoken in other countries. It'd be great to find European Spanish and Portuguese taught somewhere. A friend and I have been looking for that for a while and have come up empty. I remember in school the Spanish teacher told us she wasn't going to be teaching us Spain Spanish and the class argued with her. She was understanding but still didn't teach us the form we wanted to learn.

That could be it. I find it odd though, you'd think they'd just have more English classes for them, instead of adding Brazilian classes for us. They did come to an English speaking country, it'd be more helpful for them to learn English. My Brazilian friends learned it pretty quickly.
