More about the bike path

This is an excerpt from someone else's post this morning to a local mailing list.

There have been muggings on the stretch of bike trail that goes from behind the Brooks/Osco in Davis and empties out up on Central [...], particularly the section between Willow St. and Cedar St.

My housemate was approached last night by a person who appeared to be in his teens, riding a bike, wearing a hooded sweatshirt over another T-shirt. He got off the bike and started to walk towards my housemate, then demanded his wallet.

Thankfully my housemate was smart about it, said "No" and then started running back down the trail as fast as he could, screaming for help as he went. The kid followed for a bit but then gave up and rode away.

He reported it to the Somerville PD, and they said his was the third report that evening - the kid had also accosted an elderly couple and someone else I have no details on.

Also Friday evening there was a bunch of police activity around the trail.

Thankfully, the police seem to be taking an active interest and are doing something about the problem, but folks may wish to avoid the trail after dark alone for a bit anyway.
