Dear Davis Squarians,
I've finally started getting a routine going, and wanted to pick up writing again.  It's been a while since I've written anything that takes a spark of creativity and wasn't related in some way to blogs, political message boards, recipes, or technical help support forums.

Does anyone really know what "four score and seven years" actually equates to?  Not that it matters, but knowing that type of language in literature might be something useful to a writer.

The idea is to organize with at least 2 other writers, with probably no more than 5, to get together 1-2 times a week.  The best times for me would be Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30PM - 7:30PM.  If a group for that day feels like it, we could extend that to 8:30PM by having dinner, either as a potluck at someone's house, or at one of the local restaurants where the ambient noise doesn't make it difficult to talk with one another.

This is something I did with a friend four years ago (he was 91, and I was 25 back then), and there were a lot of topics we came up with that we eventually wrote about.  We would spec out situations, ideas, possibilities, relations to our own pasts, etc.  This would help us to continue to write, even if only for an hour a day, but enough where we wouldn't just sit in the empty space that's known as writer's block.

Let me know if you're interested, and if so, tell me about yourself.  Here's nearly three decades of relativity summed up for your 15 second reading pleasure:

Born in Houston, TX, I was the first American-born from my immediate family that immigrated from South Korea.  At the age of nine, we moved to the Pacific Northwest.  That move was where I first realized the power of perception, and how to use it to my advantage.  I transgressed the expectations of conformity, and became a pseudo pacifist at the age of 11, a vegetarian at the age of 12, and started college at the age of 16, but made sure not to graduate high school early because of my friends.  When I attended the University of Washington, I worked with infant primates, but I got too attached and dropped out to join the military.  After my service in the U.S. Navy, well... eight years later, here I am with you folk, trying to organize a writing ensemble.  If you want to know more, I guess you'll have to join the writing group.  :)

By the way, emoticons are not healthy for writers.

A 'score' is 20 (old English expression), so 'four score' is 80, and 'four score and seven' is 87 years.

You beat me to it. But I wasn't even really sure it was a real question.

Well, Lincoln was in a rush that day and had a shit wifi signal and couldn't access Google, so he had to make due and just wing it.

It's "make do" not "make due" (sorry, that is one of my least favorite eggcorns (http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/)).

Even worse than "should of done [x]"? Hate that!

I've been looking for other writers in the area for a while (though not very hard as I am just about to settle into a good routine). Unfortunately I work 3-11 weekdays. If something happens during the weekend I'm all aboard!

I'd be very interested in joining/forming a group/workshop that meets on weekends. Maybe Sunday nights?

FYI, I write poetry and am beginning to work on short fiction as well. (think: longer than a story, shorter than a novella)

If anyone would be interested in meeting once per week on a Sunday to do a little workshopping and brainstorming, email me at beckykaufman at gmail dot com.

Somerville News Writers Festival on November 22 might be a good place to meet other writers.

I've been thinking of trying to start a writing group myself for a while. My girlfriend and I love writing but don't do it enough, so we might be interested.

Way too busy right now, unfortunately, but I'd definitely be interested in joining a writing group at some point. Good luck finding people!

I'm interested in joining a writing group, but I don't see much in the way of detail here. What do you write? Fiction, non-fiction, stories, essays, novels, poems, haiku? Are you looking for people who work in the same genre, or are all writers welcome? I would love to have a forum for sharing my work and getting feedback. Would your group offer work review as well as feedback?

I'd be interested in a writing group for short form non-fiction, the kind of writing I once posted to a weblog before my attention span grew so short. Years ago I took a good writing class on that subject at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education in Harvard Square. I haven't checked their catalogs in a while so I don't know if the class still exists.

I've been a memeber of a Davis-Porter writing group. It has five others and we are looking for one more. We meet every two weeks and submit our own work about once per month. If the original poster is interested, let me know. E-mail me at lfelster@yahoo.com
