Vandalism

To the drunken fuckers outside my house last night:

No, ripping up the trellis in my yard and dumping it, and the plant that was growing on it, on the sidewalk is not funny. No, it is not clever. Congratulations, you made me feel like shit.

Yeah, I heard you last night at 2 am. I even looked out the window to make sure you were just fucking around your car after the bars closed. I'm kicking myself for that too, thanks. I hope that after you sped off you got pulled over for a well deserved DUI.

Who the hell does that? Who the hell comes up with shit like that and who the hell finds it funny? Yeah, you made someone miserable this morning, points for you.

So, to all the people walking along Day St who looked confused as they were walking under a misplaced arbor, I can assure you that it was not my idea.

My god, that's awful. So sorry some monster did this to you.

Disgusting. I will never understand people who consider random destruction of other peoples' property amusing.

I'm so sorry, this is so horrible. What a beautiful plant.
Makes me even more mad that they want to keep bars open later and even talked of lowering the drinking age. What is wrong with people these days? Let's hope their karma senses this.

Around the Ohio State campus part of Columbus, the random stupid destructive activity only started *after* they closed most of the bars in the neighborhood.

(And, as far as drinking age goes, when I was on a German exchange in high school, the German students seemed to have a much more responsible attitude to drinking than the Americans, "in spite of" the drinking age being (a rather loose) 16.)

How awful. I'm so sorry this happened to you — good luck with helping your plant heal successfully.

You forget to mention

That alcoholism is rampant in many regions in Italy... Just look at the statistics...

Obviously....

Only yuppies (or homosexual men) would have the time and inclination to build such an adorable arbor. Probably, that's the motive, to harass a member of those categories.

Perhaps "alcoholism" as defined by the MADD board of directors. According to them, everyone who participates in a Catholic communion is an alcoholic.

Hi, I live down the street from you. I didn't see this, but I'm very sorry that this happened to you. I hope none of the Honkfest attendees were responsible for it.

I wasn't implying as a definitive that any or all of what I listed are the reasons. For all we now they could have been in their later twenties and drank at home. I just posted because I'm sorry this happened.
It's just my person opinion from things I've seen that the things I listed do contribute to such actions. So it was sort of a mini rant. Not meant to be a thread hijack lol. Sorry about that.

Around Ohio State, random stupid destructive activity happens after any football game against Michigan. Doesn't matter whether OSU won or lost, or whether it was a home or away game.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope your plant recovers. Poor plant!

I do not know why people commit, and find excuses to commit, random acts of violence and destruction, but it is high on my list of traits I would eliminate from the human species if I could.

I haven't been following it lately (since I moved from Columbus to here several years ago) but in the worst years which did coincide with the closing of most of the bars on High St*, it was every home game. Note that these often turned into full on riots once the police showed up in riot gear and the (thousands of) drunks had someone to properly rebel against.

* for the godawful "South Campus Gateway" mall and (to make it topical to Davis Square) a Chipotle in the bar that I frequented most when I was in school).

it was mostly a joke, but yeah, obviously. but if it's light out and they're exhausted i'd wager the chances of them trying something like that might be a bit lower but yeah, jerks are jerks unfortunately :(

Ugh, that's so obnoxious - people try to make the city a nice place to live, so parents feel comfortable letting their frat brats* move here and piss all over it. My sympathies!

*Really, who else would get a kick out of relocating an arbor? Truly destructive drunks like me wouldn't even bother!

asshats. I'm sorry that happened to your plant and arbor, and i hope we can somehow change the culture so that kids don't think it's funny to act like complete jerks. Yuck.

Putting an arbor over a sidewalk is a cool idea, the kind of thing an art student might do. But ripping it out of your yard (or anyone else's), not cool at all.

911 and a license plate number would make them even more miserable than you. even 911 and a pretty good description of them and/or their car might yield something. assholes are not assholes in a vacuum (i.e., they've probably done similar things previously, and may have gotten caught at it).

good luck -- hope the plant lives.

From what I understand this happened in the wee hours of the morning, long after Honk! was done, and any attendees would have dispersed. Try rowdy disappointed baseball fans perhaps?

Sorry to see you were the victim of garbage. Go to the next bar licensing review and ask that the 2am closing be set back to 1am. These bars should have to pay you for the damage. Even if they are not directly responsible. They are guilty of encouraging drunks in our Square for profit. Oh and fuck drunk frat scum.
