Does anyone know of any car windshield replacement places in the Cambridge/Somerville/near by area, that is cheap and good?

The state of MA requires, last I checked, that your MA state auto insurance cover windshield replacement with a $0 or very minimal deductible. Unless you have an out-of-state insurance policy, money shouldn't be an issue.

I thought that only applied when you have full coverage?? (I don't have full coverage-just the minimum).

Call your insurance company and find out what the deductable is. It might cost you a flat fee (the deductable) to get it fixed no matter where you go.

The auto glass companies are in such cahoots with the insurance companies that when I had to have a side window replaced, the auto glass place called the insurance company to check that I was covered and took care of all of the paper work. All I needed was my policy number.

Well I hope that happens with me...it'll save me a shitload of money that I don't have! Gotta call the insurance company tommorrow to find out...they are the only place I know that closes at 4:30!!

yes, definitely call your insurance first and find out. having gone through this only a few days ago. i did not have comprehensive coverage anymore, but i paid nothing. the insurance company even called someplace local to help me schedule an appointment. many glass companies even come to you--super bonus. Otherwise, Giant Auto Glass (800-54-giant, i think) and executive auto glass are the ones that always advertise, so they might have better rates because of the amount of business. your insurance doesn't have a 24 hour claim line? it's not like accidents happening only before 4:30 :)
