hi there! im new to the community in the flood of members due to your spotlight. i just thought id raise some awareness of The Painted Bird Tattoo, Somerville's only tattoo shop just a 10-15 minute walk out of davis. we've hired a number of wonderful new artists and are looking for new clientelle!

The Painted Bird is located at 622 Somerville ave (just walk down elm street till it ends and merge left onto somerville ave, we're a block or so down on the right). we are currently staffed by 3 famale tattoo artists; abbylyn, sarazah and myself (elize), as well as our wonderful body piercer, brian. everyone aside from myself are new to somerville, so we're looking to raise awareness and welcome in some new clients. we've been having some trouble with our publicity because of horrible construction on our street for like 2 years now!

we take consultations and piercings anytime, as well as walk-ins for tattoos whenever there's someone free. consultations are free, and we all draw up custom tattoo designs, and can also replicate or work with any designs you can bring in. call us ahead if you want a tattoo that day at 617-625-8282.

we're also giving 10% all body piercings with a college id (you'll need to bring a regular id too)

we are fully licensed, insured and our facilities and equipment are clean as a whistle!

you can see all of our portfolios at www.myspace.com/thepaintedbirdtattoo ... thanks for listening fellow somervillians!

I can vouch for this artist and her RAGING AWESOMENESS!! She tattooed me a little over a week ago, and the entire process was excellent. Everyone was really nice, there was no "oh you don't have any tattoos? loser." attitude, and Elize is a GREAT artist.

So yeah. Go there.

To be honest, I've never found the idea of genitals worked into designs to be effective. I mean, really, genitals are rarely aesthetically pleasing; they're a series of tubes.

Much like the Internet.

That is a really nice tattoo, despite the total absence of genitalia :-)

Next step: Trainwreck-y VH1 dating show a la Tila Tequila?

ALL SIGNS POINT TO YES.

Just don't date Tila Tequila. You can smell the STDs from here!

Oh God, I love trashy teevee, to an almost unhealthy degree, but Tila Tequila is the ONE show I refuse to watch.

If I won't watch it, it's the bottom of the barrel. I've spent entire DAYS watching nothing but COPS, but even 15 minutes of that woman is TOO MUCH.

You should look up the MySpace post the guy she "chose" at the end of the first series put up about her. It's hilarious in how stupid he is.

Somerville's only tattoo shop

I thought there was another one near McGrath Highway and Washington St? Maybe that's gone now.

Thanks. I remember reading about it in, of all places, David Slavitt's book Blue State Blues, which describes the author's hopeless Republican race against state rep Tim Toomey.

Yeah, it was called, I think, Mongo's Tattoo Madness. Not a name that really draws clients, I think. Besides, the area was a little sketchy, though I never got inside. I guess it's just as well.

Yeah, I saw that place a few times, I think it's gone and I'm not surprised. Baaaaaad location for a shop like that.

I've really got to ask: You didn't name your shop after the Jerzy Kosinski novel, did you?

Holy crap, I love your icon!

That would be a scary tattoo, though (I mean, flames on the sides of your face). :)

Are any of your artists able to help design with an update to an older tattoo? Not a cover-up, but an updated look for it. I have some Celtic blackwork on my foot that is old and faded. I'd like to re-black and also add some color, but I'm not talented at design myself.
