tonight marks the first night i am going on a sorta-date in davis square. it starts at 8, and i'd like to go somewhere that we can grab a drink and chat. also, he has to drive back home outside the city after, so we're only going to get one, and then essentially chat/walk and chat.

any suggestions? i'm sorry if that's horribly explained. basically i'm looking for a)a place to meet/grab a drink and b)something to do/somewhere to go after where i can give him my undivided attention while chatting.

thanks!

EDIT:

if it wasn't clear, we're just getting drinks. una bebida. probably just one. neither will be eating. just talking in a fun/attention-conducive environment.

for example: before posting, i was thinking drinks at orleans and then walking down the bike bath.

EDIT#2

where can i buy a fin du monde (unibroue) at a bar/tavern in davis square?

Go to a live music show at Johnny D's? The only other 'entertainment' option I can think of right in Davis Square is a movie at the Somerville Theatre.

I would check out diesel, it's open late, fun funky food options.

They play music but it is not too loud. You order food up front and then find seats, so there is no wait staff to bug you, plus you can get coffee after a long day. When you are done you eave and walk around the square a bit. Maybe hit up JP Licks or Kick Ass Cupcakes for dessert.

oops, they don't do alcohol at Diesel, but it is still a fun place!

Sabur's bar area is not right in Davis, but it's close. It's a lovely place to go for a drink. There's good music in the background that's not too loud, the cocktails are awesome, the atmosphere is nice, and there are nice noshes too. After that, I'd suggest a walk down to Nathan Tufts Park if it's not raining, since it keeps you moving, it's pretty there, and it's not far.

On most nights I would suggest that Starbucks is quieter and less crowded than Diesel. But not on a Wednesday, when Starbucks has open mike night.

Ooh, I love fin du monde offerings.

Yum, fin du monde.... I think that after rehearsal tonight, I'll swing by some place that serves ephemere!

Aw, you deleted my comment. I suggested thanking people before fussing at them. I'm not sure what was wrong with that.

The only place I have seen La Fin Du Monde on draft in a bar is in Allston, the Sunset. Unibroue is just too small and crafty to have much of a draft presence around here, but most liquor stores do carry it.

I saw it at Common Ground in Allston as well.

There's a small very chance Orleans would have Fin Du Monde; but the most likely place to have Fin Du Monde, or failing that I assure you they'd have a similar beer; would be Red Bones. PJ Ryan's also has a few good beer options; other than that the next closest place that might have it would be the Cambridge Common.

If the candlepin bowling alley is still open in Davis, it's also
a good/different place for a first date as it gives you something
fun to do while talking.

Sacco's Bowl-Haven is still open. You'll need to get the drink somewhere else first, however, as Sacco's has no liquor license.

may i suggest bukowski's in inman? it's a little off the beaten path of davis, but fairly quiet, amazing selection of beer (they usually have fin du monde, plus more similar beers), and stellar sweet potato fries.

if i were on a first date, this is where i'd go.

Ditto the Bukowski's in Boston (near Hynes), which I actually prefer to the Inman bar; it's friendlier.

They have awesome beers & great trash comfort food.
