As I am a freeloader and don't have a paid account, and am not willing to get a plus account, there shall be no poll. But, I'm curious:

What do you feel, outside of a liquor store, is the place with the best beer selection in the Davis area (let's make it a one mile concentric circle from the center of Davis Sq.)?

Bullshit, Downtown Wine and Spirits at Davis, they have the rarest beers from Europe, I love that place...

Read it again: "outside of a liquor store"

I guess Orleans and Redbones are probably the answer, but neither is exactly a microbrewery. I wonder what the closest Sunset-esque place is.

The closest brew-pub is John Harvard's, but that's beyond the one-mile radius.

DOH! Ummmmm, is there life outside of a Liqour store? When a bottle of beer falls to the ground outside of a Liqour store and there is no one to hear it, will it still make a noise?

Inside of a liquor store it's too dark to read?

Redbone's wins this one pretty easily. I can't think of anywhere near Davis that comes close to their selection.

Redbones definitely wins for selection. 19 good beers on tap every time I'm there, and PBR for the hipsters.

Other good options nearby:
Cambridge Common - Closer to Harvard, great selection of usually hoppier beers.
Christophers in Porter - decent list of pub-type ales

They have a good number of European beers, but they certainly don't have the rarest. There are many excellent beers that aren't carried by Downtown.

That said, it's definitely my go-to place for beer buying. Not dissing it too hard, just saying.

Redbone's. Not only in Davis, but definite top 3 in Boston for my English boyfriend, who is a beer snob, even regardless of the birthright to it. :) And Underbone's definitely #1 for the atmosphere.

(the 2 others on his list are also quite obvious - Bukowski's (both locations) and Sunset)

Take him to Public House in Brookline if you haven't been.

None of these are in Davis, but...

Grendel's Den doesn't have that much selection. Less than Orleans or the Burren.

Bukowksi's in Inman Square is pretty good for selection if you're willing to make the effort to get there.

The Cambridge Common has a lot of variety, and Christopher's isn't too limited.

But if it's too dark you cannot see the Liquor you buy, that's kinda wrong...

Actually outside of a Liquor store I'd say Cambridge Common, they have a pretty decent selection on tap.

Redbones, and they'll make a snakebite!

Red Bones, definately; of note is that although they don't have the most extensive selection compared to places like the publicke house, sunset and bukowski's; they switch up their selections a lot so you can frequently try something new.

S'true that Redbones has a great selection, but for a drink, I'd rather go to PJ Ryan's, who has some pretty impressive options, too, as well as an awesome array of whiskey.

Oh hey--you saved me the trouble of commenting :P

I'd put CC as the best of the 3 though, but I like hoppier beers. Also, CC rotates their taps a lot more.

Christopher's gets last only because it's kind of lame as a bar (OK as a restaurant though)

Redbones sucks, sorry they are not that good...
