Hey all -

So i killed my car, and have been taking the T and the Alewife shuttle to Waltham (5th ave, right off Totten Pond Rd or 128) daily. Works great, however, it is taking it's toll on my bank account - it's about $75 a week.

Would nayone be willing to split gas and provide a ride share for a little bit, till i find a new car?

Even one way a day would be better than this! I work a flexible 9-5/6 day...can come/go earlier or later...

Please let me know if you can help me out! I'm happy to chat or just sit there, sipping my coffee.

I cna meet in Davis or Alewife - whatever is convinent!

Thanks so much,
b

Not a rideshare

but a recommendation. I worked out there for a summer and had great luck with the 70A bus from Central. Hop on the redline in Davis and the 70A in Central (you can cut through the parking lots up to 5th street in just 1 or 2 minutes) for the cost of a T pass ($15 a week).

to see the route, make sure you pick the 70A Totten pond variation on the T map.

You do realize that a monthly Charlie card is only $59, right? You can read about it here: http://mbta.com/fares_and_passes/charlie/?id=5592

the alewife shuttle to waltham isn't covered by the charlie card.

Ah, I see.

Although, if they swap for the 70/70A it'll work with that (right?).

that takes a lot longer IMO. the alewife shuttle goes between the station and the office park buildings only, doesn't make other stops.

Do you live anywhere near the 70 or 70A's route? There's no reason you should be paying that unless you have to!

Why don't you take the commuter rail? A 12-ride pass to Waltham from Porter is only $57, which is less than $50 a week.

The commuter rail doesn't go close to Totten Pond. My husband used to work there; there are 3 commuter rail stops each about 2 miles away, which is fine if you do rail + bike, but otherwise teh suck. (Well, at least one of them has a bus that will take you from the rail stop to the Totten Pond area, but the schedule is inconvenient.)

However, it might work to take commuter rail then pick up the 70/70A bus at Waltham. I used to do that, because it was faster than T-ing to Central and taking the 70/70A from there.

And I think a monthly commuter pass can be used on the bus.

Just saw that you do mention the bus. It's been a while since I did that and at the time I didn't find the schedule inconvenient, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be inconvenient for some (especially if the schedules have significantly changed.)

I hear good things about GoLoco (http://www.goloco.org/) as a way to find or post a rideshare...
