Review of Green Tomato 2 in the Phoenix

The Phoenix has posted a review of Green Tomato 2.

I'm a little puzzled by the statement, "The noisy, cavernous space, a former auto-repair garage, draws local families and not a few college students ...." When was it an auto repair garage? I only know it as the former space of Steve's Ice Cream and then of Carberry's.

That's just wrong. Steve's Ice Cream was demolished, and Carberry's built in its place. The Carberry's building then became, successively, O'Naturals, Boloco, and Green Tomato 2.

Also, I'm not sure "cavernous" can properly be applied to a room with big windows all along one side.

I know the reviewer and will clarify the provenence of the building, for what it's worth. His taste pretty much matches mine so I'll be checking out GTII for sure. Sounds like good value for money.

I've eaten there and have not dismissed it. It is what it is, which is tasty cafeteria fare with slightly slow service. But you get a bunch of food for your money, and it's darned good (granted, I've only eaten there once).

I thought the food was fairly mediocre/OK. I have already dismissed it because the hours are bad and it's in a dumb location. If I lived within a 5 minute walk of the place I'd probably stop by occasionally, but it's not really worth going out of the way for.

The original Steve's Ice Cream building had once been a garage (back in the 1960s). But as Ron says, it's not the same building anyway; the building now on that site was built for Carberry's.
