Oh, I just looked it up when I saw the question posted.
I suppose I should track such things, but I don't. AFAIK, the city never tickets people who put out trash a day early due to a holiday delay, so I don't worry too much about sometimes being wrong.
Apparently they'll gleefully ticket the wrong address, though. My landlord got a ticket for the address "7-9 [my street]" for $50, because somebody put trash out without a container.
7 & 9 are two entire separate houses on my street.
Question: Which holidays will cause trash and recycling pickup to be delayed?
Answer: January 1 New Year's January 21 Martin Luther King February 18 Presidents' April 21 Patriot's May 26 Memorial July 4 Independence September 1 Labor October 13 Columbus November 11 Veterans' November 27 Thanksgiving November 28 Thanksgiving Friday December 25 Christmas
I don't understand how that works for Thanksgiving weekend. Thursday and Friday pickups both delayed until Saturday? Thursday delayed to Saturday, Friday delayed to Sunday?
I've never really understood how the system rights itself over the weekend because I don't remember ever seeing trash picked up on a weekend. (I don't think I've ever lived where there was a Friday trash pickup.)
Do the trash collectors who get a day off on Tuesday have to pick up trash on Saturday instead? Or do they hire part-time workers for the weekend? Or do they have a double collection one day during the week?
Sure as heck beats the system they have in Schenectady NY, where when there's a holiday, EVERYONE'S garbage day gets rotated by a day. On Thanksgiving, it gets shifted by two days. It's on that day until the next holiday shifts things.
Everyone needed a special calendar that the city gave out to keep track of when garbage was... blech.
