Smash and Grab
Nov. 16th, 2008 01:17 amSometime on Saturday the 15th, between the hours of 12:00a and 2:00p, my partner's car was broken into while parked on Thorndike Street (coincidentally, right by the Willow Tree). They smashed her passenger-side window and stole her GPS and iPod from inside the center console (even though they shouldn't have been left there in the first place, it still sucks). We filed a police report. The woman at the Somerville Police Department was incredibly kind and helpful, but she didn't really give us a lot of hope that any of the stuff would be returned.
I'm posting this for three reasons.
(1) as a heads-up so that, hopefully, others can avoid having the same thing happen to them.
(2) to see if there is even the slightest chance that anyone may have seen anything and
(3) for those who have had this happen to them, have you ever gotten any of your stuff back? As she is not a resident of Somerville (just visiting) none of her stuff is registered with WRAP.
I really appreciate any sort of insight that anyone can provide. Thanks to all, and I hope that these kinds of crimes are not on the rise.

Date: 2008-11-16 09:20 pm (UTC)Same thing happened to a co-worker of my roommate who parked on Grove St. (near the Rite-Aid on Highland) this past week. They took her GPS system, too. Even though the neighborhoods around here seem pretty safe, it's probably not a good idea to leave any electronics in the car...
